Thank you to the Palm Bay Youth Softball Association for the invitation and for allowing the Palm Bay Police Department and Palm Bay Fire Rescue to be part of the closing ceremony fun. We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with our community, support local youth sports, and enjoy some teamwork outside of our uniforms.

From the softball field to serving our community together, we appreciate everyone who came out and made the day special.

Palm Bay Fire Rescue responded to another brush fire in the Compound yesterday that burned approximately 12 acres. Upon arrival, crews encountered multiple fires burning simultaneously in separate locations. Our firefighters quickly divided resources and were able to bring the fires under control before they could threaten nearby areas.

During suppression efforts, the Florida Forest Service recommended allowing a large section of unburned vegetation to burn under controlled conditions to help slow potential fire growth and limit spread near the main body of fire. We are thankful to report there were no injuries, no property damage, and no evacuations associated with this incident.

Palm Bay Fire Rescue continues to work closely with the Palm Bay Police Department as the investigation into the deliberate origins of these fires remains ongoing.

Halo would like to remind everyone that the City of Palm Bay burn ban remains in effect.

While we’ve seen some recent rain, our area is still experiencing a severe wildfire threat, and conditions can change quickly.

Please continue to use caution, avoid outdoor burning, and help us keep our community safe. Halo is counting on you!

After over 32 years of dedicated service to Palm Bay Fire Rescue, Lieutenant Gus Forero has officially retired.

Throughout his career, Lt. Forero served with skill, guidance, and a firm commitment to public safety and to the development of those around him. He was a member of Palm Bay Fire Rescue’s original Special Response Team (SRT) and Dive Team when they were established in the late 1990s, helping lay the foundation for specialized operations within the department.

Known as a strong advocate for firefighter safety, Lt. Forero consistently emphasized the importance of strong fundamentals, training, and knowledge ensuring the crews he led were prepared to perform at the highest level.

We thank Lt. Forero for his decades of service, dedication, and lasting impact on this department and community. Congratulations on your retirement, Gus, and best wishes on the next chapter.
