Magical Mondays!

There's nothing more magical than watching our residents enjoying their enrichment items.

Yuki, a Japanese Snow Macaque, is happily playing with her ball. She loves tossing it and chasing after it.

Macaques are naturally curious and agile and they enjoy manipulating objects.

A play ball provides sensory stimulation, physical activity, cognitive challenges and behavioral benefits.

Fun fact Friday: Meet Scotty the Hamadryas Baboon!

Hamadryas Baboon males have a pronounced silver-white mane and mantle which they develop around the age of 10. Scotty’s is very full and he loves to stroke it to keep it looking its best!

Scotty, who turned 34 this year, is a former pet and has been a resident of SPS since 2015.

One of our most popular small primates with guests, Scotty will converse with you in a low bark or grunt and can be seen basking in the breeze of his personal fan (with that fur flowing in the wind!) or perched high on his platform, where he overlooks the whole sanctuary.

Some of Scotty's favorite foods are corn on the cob, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. During your next visit come chat with Scotty in the small primate area of the sanctuary!

We will be going live around noon EDT today-Weather permitting- to celebrate Joker’s 54th birthday with some presents and snacks!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! to everyone who partnered with us through our 12 Days of # . Every single dollar you have given has been allocated towards our animal’s dental and medical care.

In mid-November we will be visited by the The Dental Coalition for Conservation to assist us with these exams. A HUGE thanks to you for helping to make this all possible.
