Mental health matters 💙

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and recognize the importance of access to care in our community 🏘️

According to HARC’s 2025 Coachella Valley Community Health Survey:
🔹 26% of Coachella Valley adults have been diagnosed with one or more mental health disorders
🔹 Nearly half received treatment in the past year
🔹 27% faced barriers to getting care

This data helps our community better understand local needs and work toward improving access to mental health support for all.

We’re grateful that we were able to attend the Palm Desert Area Chamber of Commerce Awards & Recognition Event earlier this month ✨

HARC was honored to be nominated for the Healthy Living Award. While we didn’t take home the award, it was truly meaningful to be recognized among organizations making an impact across the Coachella Valley.

A special thank you to Desert Oasis Healthcare for inviting us as their guest and for sponsoring this year’s tiki-themed event 🌴 We’re always grateful for the opportunity to connect with community leaders, partners, and friends dedicated to improving health and wellbeing in our region 💙

HARC has been proud to be part of the Statewide Mobile Monitoring Initiative (SMMI) – a first-of-its-kind program that maps air quality block-by-block in California communities that are most burdened by pollution.

SMMI was built through deep community partnerships and 128 community meetings, ensuring that the voices of those most affected by pollution shaped the program. It will make hyperlocal air quality data available to 5.2 million Californians across 64 communities – empowering residents, researchers, and policymakers to take action on local air quality in ways that have never been possible before.

SMMI is at risk of ending without continued funding. We are asking Assemblymember Greg Wallis and Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh to support the budget extension to keep this work going. Our communities deserve clean air. They deserve to know what's in it. And they deserve leaders who will fight for it.
