Yesterday District Arts Office’s Strength Through Art and Relationships (STAAR) artist in residence Selene Colon was at NCMS providing an experience with 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls where she played music and songs that are at different frequencies that represent the different seasons. Scholars painted with colors and representations of how the different music made them feel. 🎨🫟

Ayer, Selene Colón —artista residente del programa *Strength Through Art and Relationships* (STAAR) de la Oficina de Artes del Distrito— estuvo en NCMS ofreciendo una experiencia a alumnas de 6.º, 7.º y 8.º grado. Durante la actividad, reprodujo música y canciones a diferentes frecuencias que representaban las distintas estaciones del año. Las estudiantes pintaron utilizando colores y formas para expresar cómo les hacía sentir la música. 🎨🫟

Our NCMS staff enjoyed the fruits (well veggies actually) of their scholars' labor afre the harvesting of the first lettuce crop from the school's Flex Farm hydroponic garden, which produces up to 3,400 plants annually. Thanks to our Nutrition Services Department, the indoor gardens are at six of our schools and grow 25+ pounds of produce ech 28 days. The gardens support hands-on learning about nutrition, sistainability and health food choices. 🥗

Nuestro personal de NCMS disfrutó de los frutos (bueno, verduras en realidad) del trabajo de sus estudiantes después de cosechar la primera cosecha de lechugas del huerto hidropónico Flex Farm de la escuela, que produce hasta 3,400 plantas al año. Gracias a nuestro Departamento de Servicios de Nutrición, los huertos interiores están en seis de nuestras escuelas y cultivan más de 25 libras de productos cada 28 días. Los huertos apoyan el aprendizaje práctico sobre nutrición, sostenibilidad y elecciones de alimentos saludables. 🥗

September is National Preparedness Month! 🚨

Being prepared can make all the difference when an emergency happens. We work year-round to help keep our schools ready through emergency planning, training and drills.

This month is also a great reminder for families to review their own emergency plans and talk about what to do during an emergency.

Let's help keep our schools and communities safe and prepared.

Estar preparados puede hacer una gran diferencia durante una emergencia. Por eso, durante todo el año trabajamos para que nuestras escuelas estén listas con planes de emergencia, capacitaciones y simulacros.

Este mes también es un buen momento para hablar en familia sobre qué hacer en caso de una emergencia y revisar su plan de emergencia en casa.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Palm Springs High School! 🎉

Join us Friday, September 25, for Hispanic Heritage Extravaganza Night. There will be music, dance, food and performances celebrating Hispanic culture and traditions.

Food vendors will be there starting at 4:30 p.m., with the show starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Richards Center for the Arts.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online through GoFan or at the door (cash only).
