Last night the Palm Springs City Council approved a "Purchase and Sale Agreement of Real Property" regarding significant portions of the T&CC. This action by the city promises to be the first step on the path to a new future for this important historic downtown property. Among the many folks making public comment in support of the purchase was PSPF board member Babs Marshall.

A great article about the Goulding Estate (originally constructed circa 1927-28 as part of visionary developer Edmond Fulford's pioneering Palm Springs Mesa subdivision). This sounds like the beginning of a great preservation story! The Class 1 Historic Resource nomination (which includes some interesting Hollywood history) was written by PSPF board member Steven Keylon. (Photo courtesy PSHS)

At Tuesday evening's Palm Springs City Council meeting, the city attorney again announced "no reportable action" regarding the Closed Session Agenda items which included the city's possible purchase of important portions of the historic Town & Country Center. We can only speculate that although the city continues to negotiate, those negotiations are proving to be a challenge.

Following a lengthy discussion the city's Historic Site Preservation Board voted unanimously on May 5th to recommend Class 1 designation of Temple Isaiah to the City Council. Temple Isaiah is a multi-phase complex representing three significant periods of mid-century and contemporary architecture. The original building was designed in 1949-1952 by E. Stewart Williams, expanded in 1960-1962 by Wexler & Harrison, and comprehensively redesigned in 1982-1987 by David Christian. (Photo courtesy The Desert Sun)
