I cannot remain silent any more! Just since school started a couple of weeks ago, there has already been an obscenely tragic number mass shootings and deaths on school campuses across the country--not to mention the heart ache and pain suffered by friends and family of both the victims and survivors. It has been long enough since Colombine and Sandy Hook for us to realize that chained up doors, alarms, escape plans and security officers cannot address nor prevent the root causes of school and workplace violence. Prevention. It's time to begin that dialogue. Please. Here in So Cal, Kidz Managing Conflict, a nonprofit peer mediation training program can help. And so can I. I'm a mediator.

This is an information, orientation, and appreciation gathering for current and prospective volunteers, as well as individuals interested in learning more about CALM and its volunteer program for the 2024-2026 term.

Are you a retired teacher or other professional looking to recharge, a student who needs community service or special project hours, or someone with free time to give for a good cause?

Feb. 14 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM the Center for Alternative Law & Mediation (CALM) will host its annual LOVE Volunteers, an information, orientation and appreciation event for current and prospective volunteers and those interested in learning more about CALM and its volunteer program for the 2024-2026 term.

Join us or listen in for information about entry-level opportunities in support roles all the way up to leadership and training tracts such as board membership, office administration or mediator career preparation. Attendees will be surprised to learn that no special skills are needed for many of the roles offered and how much fun supporting the main mission can be, for example as a Friend of CALM fun fundraiser or part of CALM ARTS4PEACE initiative.

Since 2011 CALM has been a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to create awareness about the benefits of mediation as opposed to litigation, to train and certify mediators, and to provide low or no cost mediation services to communities, families and businesses.
