While not strictly a Fishhook issue, this does have relevance to all of use at some level.

We are all aware of the looming natural gas shortage in Alaska. It fuels most of the electric grid. Imported natural gas will mean higher gas prices. This will mean higher electricity bills.

Pretty small window for comments; comments are due 20 May 2026. Take a look and make you voice heard...errr...well maybe not voice, but at least your opinions via electrons.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is working to update the Government Peak Recreation Area (GPRA) Plan and needs your help! Now is the time to get involved in this process.

Thank you again to all of you and especially to the kind soul who picked up the bags along the Palmer Fishhook. It made life easier for a couple of older guys Sunday afternoon.

AN UPDATE- The dumpster left better than 3/4 full. A great clean up.

A big thank you to all of you who came out today to help clean up our community. A bit of slow start but you all came through. Thank you to MEA for your gift certificate support, to the Alaskana Social Club for lending the community council the pop-up covers, and to the Matanuska Susitna Borough for supplying a dumpster. Special thank you to the folks who undertook the end-of-Wendt Road clean up of the very-dead appliances. To the people who killed those appliances: heavier loads are indicated.

The dumpster will be here all week so if you missed the Saturday event, you still can contribute! Sections of the Wasilla Fishhook and the Palmer Fishhook can still use a bit of attention. There are a few bags at the dumpster at the fire station, at the Welcome Signs and at mile 9 of the Wasilla Fishhook.

Again, thank you!! We always enjoy meeting each and everyone of you, You make da Hook a great place to live.

Winter has finally released its grip on our state. The snow is melting, the geese are back and the sun is shining. Don't forget to add getting your tires changed to your spring to-do list. Today is the last day you can have your studded tires on if you are above the 60° north latitude.

It’s big, green, and empty. It needs trash to be fulfilled as a dumpster. Please help.

❄️Avalanche Forecast for 4/26/2026❄️:
The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE for WET SLAB avalanches above 2500’, below that the danger is LOW.

A skier or rider could easily trigger a large avalanche today, and dangerous avalanche conditions exist. You could trigger a slide remotely—from above, below, or to the sides of steep slopes.

Expect the hazard to increase as the day goes on and the sun heats the snow. Old, weak snow and newer, dry snow have been saturated by wet snow and rain, and the snowpack is unstable and unpredictable.

At the highest elevations, you may find lingering, sensitive wind drifts. Even a small wind slab will be able to gather wet snow below, becoming a larger, more consequential avalanche.

You can simplify your decision-making by seeking slopes with a slope angle less than 30 degrees, or by choosing slopes free of terrain traps such as gullies, cliffs, or depressions that could increase the consequences of a slide.

Hello Fishhook! It appears we are approaching 24/7 melt and as the snow recedes, we can start to see the ugliness of winters impact. Yes, that's right, trash. As is our custom, the Fishhook Community Council is sponsoring a clean up day. Starting at 0900 on Saturday May 2, the community will mobilize in their various neighbors and along various road to pick up trash.

There will be a dumpster staged at the fire station for our use. Fire up those quads and side-by-side, slide on those muck boots, and grab a pair of gloves.

We will try to stage bags around the community for those of you who want to get a jump on the activities.

Watch this space for more details.

Hello Community Council Partners!

MatSu Valley Planning for Transportation (MVP) is pleased to formally announce the opening of our Formal Transportation Project Nomination Period, soliciting projects for inclusion in our first Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

This nomination period is a critical step in developing a prioritized, long-range transportation investment strategy for the Greater Core Area of Mat-Su. Projects submitted through this process will be reviewed, evaluated, and prioritized by MVP for potential inclusion in the MTP. Projects must be included in the MTP to be eligible to receive federal funding through MVP.

How your community council can get involved in this process:

As a community council, you have a keen understanding of your community's most pressing transportation issues and opportunities. We encourage you to share your suggestions for potential transportation projects and priorities within your community via resolution or letter of support to MVP. Projects that are backed by resolution or letter of support may receive higher scores as part of our project evaluation, scoring, and prioritization process. We will ensure that any resolutions or letters of support are also shared with our partners at the MSB, DOT, City of Wasila, and City of Palmer as appropriate.

Key details:

· Opening date: January 28, 2026

· Duration: Minimum of 30 days

· Who may submit: Any organization, agency, or individual

· Submission method: All nominations must be submitted through the online Project Nomination Form

The attached Formal Project Nomination Information Packet provides additional information about project nominations including:

If you have questions about the nomination process, please contact [email protected].

For technical issues with the online form, please contact Mackenze Origer at [email protected].
