The Independence Mine State Historical Park and Friends of State Parks Mat-Su are pleased to announce Salmon Berry Tours will be back this summer 2021 offering tours and more. Independence Mine State Historical Park will be open daily beginning June 18 - September 30, 2021. General Manager's House, Bunkhouse Number 2 and the Assay Office will be open from 10am-6pm for self guided exhibit explorat

ion. Guided Tours will be available for purchase to get a behind the scenes look into 3 additional mine buildings. Come find us at Bunkhouse Number 2 with departures at the top of the hour! Please note that the gate on the 1-mile access road to the historic mine and visitor center will be closed at 7pm daily this summer. The park will remain open to pedestrian use at all times, with visitor parking available at the Independence Mine Bowl parking lot. page maintained by Friends of State Parks, Mat-Su.

📢 Season Update – Independence Mine Closing for the Season

As the season winds down, Alaska State Parks wants to send out a big thank you to our partners and volunteers.

👏 Shoutout to Alaska Trails and their hardworking volunteer crew for putting in a long day on the Gold Mint Trail last week.

👏 And an extra round of gratitude to for their dedication and partnership at Independence Mine this summer. Your commitment and countless long days have made a huge difference.

⛏️ Today will be the final day of operations at Independence Mine. After that, the gate at The Bowl will remain closed until June 2026.

If you’ve been meaning to visit, now’s the time, this is your final call before the snow settles in.
