TRAFFIC ALERT

Palmer Fire is currently operating on the Massachusetts Turnpike westbound at Mile Marker 63 for a serious motor vehicle accident.

Both westbound lanes are currently closed while emergency crews operate on scene. Please avoid the area and expect significant delays

At approximately 4:18 a.m. this morning, Palmer Fire responded to a reported vehicle fire on the eastbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike near mile marker 63.
Upon arrival, crews encountered a vehicle on fire and quickly extinguished the fire.
All occupants were able to safely exit the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.
Palmer Fire reminds motorists to use caution when approaching emergency scenes and to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles operating along the highway.

This morning, members of Palmer Fire District No. 1 trained alongside our partners from Three Rivers Fire Department on standpipe operations.

Crews reviewed the equipment, techniques, and coordination needed to establish an effective fire attack using a building’s standpipe system.

Joint training gives our departments the opportunity to work together before an emergency occurs. When multiple departments respond to the same incident, familiarity with each other’s equipment, procedures, and personnel helps operations run safely and efficiently.

AUTO EXTRICATION TRAINING

Vehicle crashes are among the many emergencies firefighters respond to, and when someone is trapped, every minute matters.

Tonight, our members trained on vehicle stabilization, patient access, glass management, door removal, roof removal, and the use of hydraulic and bettery operated rescue tools.

Auto extrication requires firefighters to work quickly while protecting the patient and coordinating closely with EMS personnel. Regular hands-on training keeps these skills sharp and prepares our crews for the challenges presented by modern vehicles.

Thank you to Ronald Gigliotti from Viper Emergency Medical Restraints for visiting Palmer Fire and conducting in-service training with our members.

Developed in Worcester, Massachusetts, Viper Restraints are designed for rapid deployment when needed to help provide a safer environment during patient care and transport. These restraints provide EMS and healthcare professionals with another tool to help reduce the risk of injury to patients, providers, and others involved during challenging situations.

We appreciate Ronald taking the time to provide our members with hands-on training and education on the proper use and deployment of the Viper Restraint System.

This afternoon, the Palmer Fire Department duty crew trained at the Palmer Water Department, focusing on water supply operations, fireground hydraulics, and hose deployment.

Firefighters practiced establishing a reliable water supply from a hydrant and deploying both 1¾-inch attack lines and 2½-inch handlines, reinforcing the skills needed to effectively combat a variety of fire incidents. Crews also trained on the proper setup and operation of the deck gun mounted on Engine 162, providing experience with high-volume master stream operations.

Regular hands-on training like this ensures our firefighters remain proficient with their equipment and prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

This afternoon, Palmer firefighters conducted ladder and aerial operations training at Converse Middle School.

Throughout the training, firefighters rotated through a series of realistic scenarios designed to strengthen their proficiency with ground ladders and the department’s aerial apparatus. Evolutions included deploying ladders to upper-story windows for simulated victim rescues and positioning the tower to access the roof for simulated ventilation operations.

Training in realistic environments helps firefighters develop the skills, teamwork, and confidence needed to perform safely and effectively during emergencies.
