Services Offered
We are dedicated to our Senior Community. Here are the services we provide.
• Congregate Meals: providing nutritional meals and socialization in a congregate setting. The program includes a lunch served at 1132 S. Chugach St. on weekdays starting at 11:30 am. This program provides a well-balanced meal and the opportunity for social interaction
with other seniors. The updated menu is located on our website www.matsuseniors.com
• Home-Delivered Meals: providing nutritional meals at home. HDM program includes delivery of meals on weekdays and sending extras for weekends and holidays. The criteria for participation in these programs are: individuals are 60+, their spouse, meal-hour volunteers, disabled individuals living in a home with seniors 60+ or individuals on the Medicaid Waiver Program. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 per meal plus $.50 for delivery of home-delivered meals. MSSS is certified by the State of Alaska to provide meals under the Medicaid Waiver (CHOICES) program.
• Transportation: Includes rides to/from medical appointments in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley, adult day centers, the senior center, shopping, etc. If you need a ride, please call ahead for confirmation. Donations are accepted for all rides, Anchorage trips are a set fee. MSSS is certified to provide rides to Medicaid Waiver (CHOICES) participants.
• Chore Services: assisting eligible individuals maintain their home in a safe and sanitary condition. program targets physically or emotionally frail seniors and disabled adults, assisting them in maintaining their home. The criteria for participation in the chore services program is individuals 60+, adults of any age with Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Disorders (ADRD) and adults with physical disabilities. Chore Services is certified to provide services for the Medicaid Waiver (CHOICES) program.
• Respite Services: Provides a break (respite) for unpaid caregivers. program focuses on the health and well-being of unpaid caregivers, providing an opportunity to take time for themselves to enable caregivers to continue to providing quality services for their loved ones. The criteria for participation in the respite program is for caregivers of individuals 60+, adults of any age with Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Disorders (ADRD) and adults with physical disabilities. The MSSS Respite program is certified as a Medicaid Waiver (CHOICES) provider.
• Family Caregivers: support for caregivers of seniors 60 years or older.
• Adult Day Services: the longest running day program for eligible individuals in the
Mat-Su Borough. Also the longest operating adult day program in the Mat-Su Valley. This program is essential for any individual at risk of being left alone while a family member or caregiver is away and any eligible individual who wants to get out and socialize, but is physically unable to do so on their own. This could include individuals who are elderly, individuals of any age with ADRD, adults with physical disability, developmental disability, or traumatic brain injury. Adult Day Services provides a safe, warm environment for individuals to socialize and participate in activities. A nurse is present to provide blood pressure; vital signs, blood sugar monitoring and general medical care for the participants. The cost is based on a sliding fee scale. MSSS Adult Day Services is certified to provide adult day services under the Medicaid Waiver (CHOICES) program. Located at 920 S. Chugach Street in Palmer.
• Information & Referral: This program provides accurate and comprehensive information on community services, including, but not limited to, assisting individuals with rental assistance applications, energy assistance, weatherization, senior benefits program, power of attorney, advance directives and permanent fund. The program also maintains the equipment loan program, a notary service and, when necessary, provides advocacy for those who need assistance.
• Outreach: for those unable to get to the center.
• Colony Estates and Chugach Estates Senior Housing: For individuals 55 years or older.
• Activities and Isolation Prevention: include pinochle, bridge, computer classes, pool, etc.
• Health Promotion, Disease Prevention: Exercise classes and available gym equipment.
• Volunteer Opportunities: Must be 18 years of age or older. Our volunteers are essential for all of our programs to succeed. Our volunteers include board members, retired registered nurses to assist taking blood pressure, health care professionals to help at our an annual health fair, drivers for transportation of individuals to special places, kitchen workers, activity coordinators, planners for fundraising events, care coordination assistants, adult day services aides, etc.
