Celebrating Our Retirees 🍎

We would like to recognize seven incredible educators who are retiring from the Palmyra R-1 School District.

At Palmyra Elementary School, we wish Mrs. Carper, Mrs. Churchwell, Mrs. Hausdorf, and Mrs. Schindler all the best as they begin this new chapter.

At Palmyra Middle School, we celebrate the careers of Mrs. Barnett, Mrs. Hillman, and Ms. Hummelsheim.

Combined, these dedicated educators have devoted nearly 200 years of service to education, leaving a lasting impact on countless students, families, and colleagues along the way.

Thank you for your commitment, passion, and the difference you made in our schools and community. You all will be greatly missed, and we wish you happiness and success in all that lies ahead. 🧡🖤

Hands-on science in action at PHS!

How healthy is our soil? Mrs. Brass' Biology students put campus soil to the test using an unusual experiment — cotton un**es! 😄

By burying cotton underwear around campus for 8 weeks, students were able to investigate how soil health, location, and even human activity can impact microbial life. The healthier the soil, the more microorganisms worked to break down the cotton fibers!

The results were fascinating — some pairs had fungal discoloration, a few were almost completely gone, and a couple looked like they could be washed and worn again! Students also discovered that microbes seemed to prefer white underwear over gray or black. 🌱🔬

Meanwhile, engineering minds were hard at work tackling the classic egg drop challenge! 🥚

Students designed devices to slowly convert kinetic energy into potential energy in order to protect a raw egg from falls of 3, 5, 7, and even 8 meters. Using concepts similar to airbags in cars and the rolling techniques used by parkour athletes, students tested a variety of creative strategies and materials. A few eggs even survived more than four drops!

Great hands on science activities and fun ways to implement learning until the very end of the school year! 👏

Congratulations to Palmyra Middle School 8th grader Heidi on an incredible accomplishment!

Heidi recently earned 1st Place in the annual statewide essay contest sponsored by the Missouri Peace Officers Foundation.

This year’s essay prompt asked students: “Will AI Be a Threat or Opportunity for My Generation?” Heidi’s outstanding essay was selected as the top entry in the eastern side of Missouri!

As the first-place winner, Heidi received a $300 award, Mrs. Kizer's classroom earned $100, and the school also received $100 in recognition of her achievement. Even more exciting, her essay will be published in an upcoming issue of the organization’s magazine!

Heidi was honored at an assembly and was announced the winner by Captain Carey of the Palmyra Police Department.

We are incredibly proud of Heidi for her hard work and representing our school so well. Congratulations on this amazing honor! 🎉
