The most dangerous words in the fire service aren’t:
“Mayday.”
“Out of water.”
Or “Man down.”

It’s:
“That’s how we’ve always done it.”

That mindset has killed more growth, more motivation, and more good firefighters than people want to admit.

Good leaders respect tradition.
Great leaders know when tradition becomes an excuse.

If your department punishes questions, ignores new ideas, or mocks people for wanting to improve… don’t be surprised when motivated firefighters stop caring.

The fire service should honor the past, not get trapped in it.
