The area's First Baptist Church began in 1800 and met at the home of Lemuel Spear. A church was later built on Walworth Road in 1808. However, desiring a church in the Village of Palmyra, the Baptists of Palmyra began meeting at the old church house on Cemetery Hill until the building burned down in 1838. Another church was then built and lasted for 30 years. The church was later replaced by the structure on the southwest corner of the Main and Canandaigua Street intersection.

Palmyra's Methodist Episcopal Church first began in 1797, meeting in homes throughout the village. After meeting in temporary locations, the individuals chartered and purchased property on the corner of Vienna and Johnson Streets in 1822. The church later moved to Cuyler Street in 1847. The First Methodist Church was then built on the northwest corner of the Main Street intersection in 1867. Check out the photo of the congregation in 1899!
