Before heading to bed tonight, take a quick moment to make sure your vehicle is locked and valuables are removed or out of sight.

Many vehicle thefts and burglaries happen simply because doors are left unlocked. A few extra seconds can help protect your property and prevent unnecessary loss.

Today Delta Squad (Ptlm. Henriques seen here) took a moment and made a special stop to support some young entrepreneurs.

Moments like these remind us that policing is about more than responding to calls it’s about building connections, sharing smiles, and being part of the community we serve.

Great job to these future business owners Your hard work (and delicious lemonade!) did not go unnoticed.

The Palmyra Police Department proudly announces that Chief Josiah Murphy’s photo has been added to our Wall of Police Chiefs, honoring his legacy and the unwavering commitment that he and those who have served before him have shown to this department and the community.

With that said we would like to take the time and also congratulate Chief Murphy on his retirement after 25 years of dedicated and honorable service.

Chief Murphy began his law enforcement career in 2000 after graduating as a SLEO II from the Cape May County Police Academy, serving with the North Wildwood Police Department. Later that year, he joined the Burlington County Bridge Commission Police, continuing his work as a SLEO II. In June 2001, he was hired as a Patrolman with the Palmyra Police Department and attended the Burlington County Police Academy, Class #80.

A lifelong Palmyra resident and graduate of Palmyra High School, Chief Murphy went on to earn his B.A. in Law and Justice from Rowan University. Throughout his career, he served in many vital roles, including a member of the department’s S.W.A.T. Team from 2006–2011, fi****ms and taser instructor, and Detective Bureau member beginning in 2011. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2012, sworn in as Lieutenant in October 2020, and ultimately rose to the rank of Chief of Police in May 2024.

Chief Murphy is also a graduate of the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Program, further exemplifying his commitment to professional excellence and leadership.

Chief Murphy looks forward to beginning a new chapter by spending more time with his wife and three children. While he will deeply miss the camaraderie and time spent with the men and women of the Palmyra Police Department, his legacy of leadership, dedication, and service will continue to inspire.

Please join us in thanking Chief Murphy for his service and wishing him a happy, healthy, and well deserved retirement. Will take it from here Chief.

An update from the office of Palmyra OEM

The National Weather Service shared this radar image from the powerful squall line that moved through our area late last night.

The bright red areas on the image show very strong wind signatures within the storm, including winds approaching 70 mph about 500 feet above the ground as the line moved west to east across Burlington County, New Jersey and Camden County, New Jersey.

As this line passed over communities including Palmyra, those stronger surges of wind likely contributed to the downed limbs, scattered debris, and power outages reported around the region.

Storms like this can move through very quickly and intensify rapidly. It’s a good reminder to always stay weather aware and have a way to receive warnings, especially overnight.
