Since its founding, the Palmyra Area Lions Club has provided convalescent equipment—including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and bedside commodes—to community members at no cost.
Recently, we received a unique and heartwarming request from a local resident who needed to borrow a self-propelled wheelchair (the style with large wheels) to help refresh training for her therapy dog, Beau. As a certified therapy team with KPETS, they wanted to ensure Beau was comfortable and confident working around wheelchairs before returning to visits at nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities.
Thanks to our equipment loan program, the Lions Club was able to provide a wheelchair so Beau could safely practice and become desensitized to it. This training is essential for therapy dogs to feel at ease in healthcare settings and continue bringing comfort to patients.
Beau’s handler shared her gratitude with us, noting how helpful it was to borrow the chair and prepare Beau for successful visits to hospitals and rest homes once again.
We’re proud to support our community in big and small ways—and we love seeing how a simple act of service can help spread comfort, confidence, and care. 🦁💙
