Air quality (smoke) has improved this morning, and school will be held as usual today.

Fire Update – August 26, 2026 | 12:00 p.m.

We want to provide families with an update on the current conditions in the area.

A fire has been reported just west of Palo Pinto, near the area where the original fire occurred. Emergency personnel are responding to the area, and additional fire crews from a neighboring community are staging nearby and standing by to assist if needed. We are hearing 180 West (west of Palo Pinto) is closed at this time. We will be contacting parents whose students ride a bus to the PK Lake area shortly.

We have spoken with fire personnel, and they have advised us that the school is safe at this time. However, please rest assured we have an evacuation plan in place if needed.

School remains in session as usual. However, we understand that parents may feel more comfortable picking up their children. Parents who wish to do so are welcome to pick up their children, although there is no immediate danger to the school at this time.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will communicate with families immediately through SchoolMessenger automated calls and/or social media if conditions change.

Fire Update 8/26/26 6:30am

We spoke with the Sheriff’s Department this morning and were informed that emergency personnel are conducting a controlled burn in the area. With a shift in winds expected today, they are taking proactive measures to help minimize wildfire risks in the area.

While fire is visible in the area, we have been advised that there is currently no risk to the school, and school will continue as normal at this time. We will continue to closely monitor the situation throughout the day and will communicate should conditions change.

Palo Pinto ISD Update 8/24/26: A wildfire is currently burning west of the Palo Pinto community. We have been in contact with the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office at 1:38pm, and at this time, our school is safe to remain in place per their information. Law enforcement will keep us informed should the situation require further action from the school district.

School remains in session as usual, but out of an abundance of caution, we understand that parents may wish to pick up their children. You are welcome to do so though we are in no immediate danger at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and will notify parents via School Messenger automated calls and/or social media immediately if conditions change. Thank you.

🏆 A PERFECT 100 FOR PALO PINTO ISD!

Palo Pinto ISD is proud to announce that we have earned an "A" rating with a perfect score of 100 through the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).

This achievement reflects the care and responsibility our district places on managing the resources entrusted to us by our community. Strong financial practices allow us to remain focused on what matters most — providing our students with the opportunities and support they deserve.

A perfect score of 100 is certainly something to celebrate, but it also represents the importance of accountability, transparency, sound financial management, and responsible stewardship throughout the year.

We are grateful to our Board of Trustees, Superintendent and CFO Wendell Barker, staff, families, and community for the work, trust, and support that make accomplishments like this possible.

In a small district, every dollar matters, and every financial decision carries an important responsibility. We are proud to steward our resources carefully while keeping our students at the heart of those decisions.
