🚨 Buyer Beware 🚨

We have recently seen an increase in fraudulent vehicle titles being presented after vehicles were purchased through Facebook Marketplace and other online sales platforms.

To help protect yourself when purchasing a vehicle:

✅ Meet the seller in person at your local DMV/Tax Office
✅ Verify the title before exchanging money
✅ Make sure the VIN on the vehicle matches the title
✅ Confirm the seller’s identification matches the title documents
✅ Never rely solely on photos or screenshots of paperwork
✅ Make sure there is no white-out or stickers on the title.

Taking a few extra minutes to complete the transaction at the DMV can help prevent costly problems and protect both buyers and sellers.

May is an important property tax month.

Over 4,000 May statements are hitting mail boxes now if you haven’t paid your 2025 taxes that were originally sent in October. These come from the Tax Office.

18,000 Appraisal Value Notices went out from the Palo Pinto County Appraisal District. The deadline to protest is May 15th! If you did not get a statement, your value didn’t change significantly, but you can still check your appraised value online at the Appraisal District website.

Keep in mind, the Appraisal District sets values, maintains address changes, and exemptions. Their website looks very similar to the tax office but it shows appraised values.

The Tax Office takes payments and our website shows your statements. 2025’s are still posted now. 2026 statements won’t come out til October after the entities set the tax rates.
