Forest Fire Lookout Association San Diego-Riverside Chapter This is the official page of The Forest Fire Lookout Association - San Diego Riverside Chapter. WHAT IS THE FOREST FIRE LOOKOUT ASSOCIATION?

The Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA), founded in 1990, is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization involved in the research of forest fire lookout sites, ground cabins and early forest fire detection methods. Anecdotes of lookout operators both past and present are documented. The organization encourages efforts of public groups and others in the restoration of forest fire lookouts. Some lookout p

rojects are undertaken by chapters of the organization itself. The Forest Fire Lookout Association’s by-laws prohibit the lobbying for retaining lookout operator jobs and there is no political connection to any such groups that encourage these efforts. The membership is composed of lookout enthusiasts, hikers, conservationists, forest fire personnel, foresters, story writers, and members of the environmental community. Conferences are held twice a year in the eastern and western United States and Canada. A Board of Directors meeting is held in January and state chapter meetings are held periodically. The Forest Fire Lookout Association issues a quarterly newsletter, Lookout Network and is a benefit of membership. A Plus membership is available which includes quarterly issues of National Woodlands Magazine which has articles and information on the National Historic Lookout Register and the FFLA. The Forest Fire Lookout Association has chapters in twenty-five states and is represented by directors. Correspondence is currently received by almost all fifty states. Chapters are also located in Western Australia and Canada.

Hey everybody. I’m the Fire Lookout Program Manager on the San Bernardino NF. As most of you know Keller Peak was lost in the Line Fire. The Osborne is safe but is now missing the wood base and slide rails. I am getting an estimate for a new set to be made but ideally I’d like replace it with an original set. These things are pretty scarce and I know this is a long shot, but if anyone hears of a base and rails for sale etc I’d appreciate it if you could let me know. I’m going to post this across a few lookout groups, but feel free to share this…. Thanks All.

High Point was happy to have a visit today from two of our local California State Park Rangers. They are familiar with Boucher Hill lookout in the Palomar Mountain State Park but wanted to come over to the CNF and visit High Point to see how the other side of our operations work.

As we move towards the 2024 Fire Season, here are the 2023 statistics from High Point and Boucher Hill Lookouts. Surprisingly Boucher Hill's visitor numbers were down. Usually, visitors average around 13,000 for a season. Smoke and Lightning reports were also down (which is a good thing).
