CONCERT & FIREWORKS CANCELLED

Due to the forecast for significant rain, along with the potential for lightning and thunderstorms beginning around 5:00 PM and continuing through the evening, the Chicago Experience Concert and Fireworks Show scheduled for tonight have been CANCELLED. The safety of our residents, visitors, performers, and staff is our top priority. Unfortunately, the anticipated weather conditions make it unsafe to proceed with the event.

The City is currently exploring options to reschedule the concert and fireworks show. We are working with the event organizers and vendors to determine a potential alternate date and will provide additional information as soon as details are finalized.

We sincerely appreciate everyone's understanding and apologize for the disappointment. Thank you to the Palos Heights Parks and Recreation Department, City staff, performers, vendors, and everyone who worked hard to prepare for tonight's event. Please stay safe and monitor weather conditions throughout the evening.

STORM RECOVERY UPDATE

Yesterday’s storm brought another round of severe weather to the region, although the most damaging winds impacted several of our surrounding communities more heavily.

As we continue our third storm recovery effort this summer, the City would like to extend a sincere thank you to the ComEd storm response team. The past three storms have had a significant impact on Palos Heights and communities throughout the region. Throughout each event, ComEd has worked closely with City staff, provided restoration updates to the best of their ability, focused on restoring power to critical facilities, and provided additional support to our residents, including the ComEd service van that offered phone charging during the City wide power outages.

We are fortunate to have a great ComEd representative working with our community, along with the many hardworking men and women who have been working long hours for much of the summer responding to this unprecedented wave of severe weather.

As we continue the recovery from yesterday’s storm, we ask residents for continued patience as our crews work through the remaining storm debris.

We also remind residents to remain vigilant when hiring contractors. Unfortunately, repeated storms can attract dishonest contractors looking to take advantage of homeowners. Verify that contractors are properly licensed and insured, obtain written estimates, and do not feel pressured to make immediate decisions.

Thank you to our residents, Public Works employees, ComEd crews, first responders, and contractors for your continued patience, cooperation, and hard work as we work through another round of storm recovery.
