Laundry day. . .
After every fire it's time to do laundry! Smoke exposure brings lots of particulate that is hazardous, and cleaning is a must. Hoses even get a high pressure wash down and drying. Then we move onto our turnouts which are washed in a special washing machine that uses a special detergent and has high extraction ability to remove the particulate. Here are some pictures showing the gear and hoses in use and the two processes.
The washing machine was purchased with grant funds and costs about $6000.
It's not all just putting the wet stuff on the red stuff, when the day is done, it's time to do the laundry!

At 0230 Monday morning Palouse Fire, Pullman Rural FD12 and Pullman Fire were dispatched to a structure fire at a house in a rural setting on the south edge of District 4. This is amazing example of a mutual aid response. Upon arrival more area departments were requested and responded. This first set of responders included Medic 32, an ambulance from Pullman along a fire fighting apparatus. Other departments who responded were Potlatch, Garfield, Albion and Colfax. Some departments brought fire fighting apparatus and staff, while others sent water tenders to keep the apparatus supplied with water. Two ambulances were sent not only for case of an injury, but to provide staff and a place to rehab firefighters as they rotate out for breaks and medical assessment as vital signs are checked to insure they are ready to return to duty without compromising their health or the safety of the team.
The community comes together to the aid of others even outside their specific boundaries. Thank you to all the community response teams that came out in the middle of the night to assist and put this fire out. In the pictures attached you will seen the gear worn by our fire crew in the interior gear we wear. The self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is part of our safety gear we practice using on a quarterly basis. About a month ago we did our quarterly practice. We not only test the equipment, we wear it and use it for several minutes. When practice is over, it’s time for a battery change out and a fresh tank of air. The depleted tanks are refilled and all gear back into the trucks ready for the next event.
Till next time, be safe out there. . .

Mutual aid comes under the category: "without you, we couldn't!"

Our mutual aid call this morning had this response from the Pullman Firefighters:

🤝 Mutual Aid in Action
This morning firefighters from Palouse Fire Department, Whitman County Rural Fire District 12 and Pullman Fire Department Paramedics responded to a reported boiler room fire in Palouse. Thankfully the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.
Calls like this highlight how important mutual aid and regional cooperation are for our communities. When a structure fire is reported, multiple departments may be requested to respond to ensure there are enough firefighters and resources on scene quickly.
Pullman Fire responded with an Advanced Life Support/Paramedic ambulance to handle any potential injuries.
Great work by everyone involved and thank you to Palouse Fire and Whitman County Rural Fire District 12 for the strong partnership. 🚒

At 0946 this morning, Palouse Fire, Pullman Rural FD12 and Pullman Fire were dispatched to a reported boiler room fire at a house in Palouse. As fire crews arrived the fire was quickly extinguished. The house had a large amount of steam inside, the Palouse FD crew assisted the homeowner with getting the steam out of the house. House was handed back over to the homeowner. No injuries were reported.
This is an example of a response for a structure fire mutual aid call. When a structure fire in our district is called, we have additional automatic response from Pullman Rural FD 12 and Pullman Fire. Pullman Fire sent an ambulance to handle any possible injuries, fortunately there were no injuries. The fire was extinguished quickly and Pullman Rural FD 12 was able to return to station prior to arrival in Palouse. The community comes together to the aid of others even outside their specific boundaries. Thank you to both FD 12 and Pullman Fire for their rapid response.

Another update on the Shady Lane - South Hill burn piles 🔥

The GarPal Girls BB team had a wonderful win last night at the State Tournament.
It was an honor to add 4 Fire and EMS vehicles to the es**rt parade as the Bus headed to Spokane.
We had 4 volunteers who took time out of their day and some time off of work to be there.
Nice to have the 3 Police and Sheriff vehicles to add to the siren noise and flashing lights. The parade was heard all over town.
Go GarPal Vikings!
Others have posted pictures and videos. We hope you’ve seen them!
