Well, well. LLOG just doubled the estimate of their deepwater oil spill in the Gulf; now it's at 672,000 gallons. The Coast Guard considers any spill over 100,000 gallons to be a "major" oil spill, their highest category. We are still looking for satellite imagery of the area; we've seen nothing useful since the Sentinel-1 radar image we published that was taken on October 12 and showed a relatively small slick in the general area. Since this was a release on the seafloor more than 4,000 feet down, it may take days for the oil to surface.

The scientists developed a survey to put a dollar value on the natural resources damaged by the spill by determining household willingness to pay for measures that would prevent similar damages should a spill of the same magnitude happen in the future.
