We recently installed a beautiful new honeysuckle trellis at Henry Davis Park, designed to attract hummingbirds and enhance the park's natural beauty!

A special thank-you to the Bay County Audubon Society and the Kiwanis Club of Panama City for generously funding and donating the arbor as part of their commitment to conservation and our community.

We’re especially grateful to Matt, Kenny, and Mike from PCR, who spent several hours last Thursday helping assemble the arbor and plant the honeysuckle. Their hard work helped bring this project to life!

This is just one of the many conservation efforts supported by our City throughout our parks and open spaces. We’re proud to partner with organizations and community members who share our passion for protecting and enhancing the natural spaces we all enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible. We can’t wait to see the arbor flourish and welcome a few more hummingbirds to Henry Davis Park! 💚

The first week of school is officially over, and we still can’t believe how much fun we packed into our time at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center!

Summer at the Rec was a blast, from creative art & STEM camps to Hoop Jam and VolleyVibe, plus Ignite STEAM events and Dream Builders Fun Fridays. We kept the fun going all season long!

🚒🚓🚁Get ready to explore big trucks, loud engines, and awesome machines! 🚛🚑🚜

Join us for the annual Touch A Truck Event on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10 AM–1 PM at Carl Gray Park. Kids can climb, touch, and discover vehicles from local fire, police, public works, emergency services, Tyndall Air Force Base, and more!

We’re also looking for four food trucks to be part of this exciting community day. If you're a vendor interested in serving the crowd, please contact us soon as spots will fill quickly!

🏀Registration for our 2026 Youth Basketball League has been extended through August 31! With practices starting early September and games beginning late September, now’s the perfect time to sign up.

🎉We’re also proud to highlight a generous $450 donation to the Panama City Community Fund to support our MLK Scholarship Program, covering registration for five young athletes this season. Contributions like this help expand access and strengthen our recreation programs. To learn more about the scholarship program and qualifications, please inquire at the front desk of the MLK Jr. Recreation Center.

Double Dutch Jump Rope is coming to the MLK Jr. Recreation Center starting September 1! Every Tuesday from 6–7 PM, ages 7 and up can learn everything from beginner basics to advanced Double Dutch skills.

🔥 Ignite STEM brought the heat this past Saturday!

Thanks to Kimley-Horn and Leadership Bay, young scientists gathered at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center for a hands-on Solar Oven S’mores activity! Using pizza boxes, foil, and plastic wrap, participants learned how solar energy and heat transfer can transform sunlight into a tasty treat.

Even with a little weather in the mix, everyone enjoyed snacks, refreshments, and left with their very own solar oven plus a to go s’mores kit to keep experimenting at home.
