Rob and Lynn Koehnemann first purchased and developed property on Grace Avenue in 1983. At that time, they purchased the former YMCA building and rehabbed it for their newly formed technology business. In subsequent years Rob and Lynn purchased and improved several more buildings nearby. Town Centre is near federal, state, county and city offices - in the heart of Downtown Panama City, Florida

In August, when many flowers have faded, I enjoy crapemyrtle trees. Even though it is not native to North America, the crape myrtle is not deeply destructive or aggressively invasive. But they have low ecological value because they do not support local insect food webs as native trees do.

The ongoing $5 billion reconstruction project at Tyndall includes a state-of-the-art combination hangar/headquarters for each of its three F-35 squadrons. Tyndall Air Force Base serves as the training base for F-22 Raptor pilots and houses several major Air Force operations and commands. More than 100 new buildings are under construction. Totaling more than 2 million square feet, they will consist of maintenance, hangars, administrative spaces, operations support, dormitories, temporary lodging, recreation, community facilities, and a chapel. Infrastructure, including roadways, pedestrian paths, entry-control facilities, and utility improvements, is also planned. The rebuild focuses on resilience: a strengthened envelope, elevation requirement, and coastal resilience.

Forty years ago state and federal agencies recognized the alligator gar as a vital apex predator rather than a "trash fish". For the first half of the 20th century, authorities had targeted them for systematic eradication. In Florida, alligator gar live only in the western Panhandle, mainly in slow-moving rivers, bayous, and connected brackish bays from Gulf County over to the Escambia County border.
The alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula) is a large, ancient freshwater fish known for its long, torpedo-shaped body, crocodile-like snout, and two rows of teeth in its upper jaw, making it North America's second-largest freshwater fish. Found in slow-moving rivers, swamps, and lakes, it's a top predator that preys mainly on other fish but is also an opportunistic feeder, and its populations have declined due to overfishing and habitat loss, though conservation efforts are underway. While its flesh is edible (excluding toxic eggs), it's also a prized sport fish, and its unique biology, including the ability to breathe air, makes it a vital part of its ecosystem.

This painting of Florida alligators was completed by John Singer Sargent in 1917. The number of alligator hides taken in Florida peaked in 1929 when the annual commercial take spiked to 190,000 skins. This period of intensive hunting, combined with habitat loss, decimated the wild population. By 1943, the reported annual take plummeted to just 6,800 skins, forcing the state of Florida to step in and implement its first official legal protections for the species. Then the Endangered Species Preservation Act led to the official endangered listing for alligators in 1973, and strict bans on commercial trade and hunting. By 1987 the population fully rebounded, and the species was officially delisted.
