Bay County Fire Rescue responded to an early morning fire at Jaws Souvenirs on Thomas Drive. Panama City Beach Fire Rescue, Naval Support Activity-Panama City Fire, and Panama City Fire Department provided mutual aid. BCSO provided assistance as well. No injuries were reported.

We would also like to thank Walton County Fire Rescue, Florida, South Walton Fire District and Jackson County Fire Rescue for helping out today.

Bay County Fire Rescue was proud to assist Lynn Haven Fire Rescue with mutual aid during a house fire Wednesday night. Firefighters rescued two dogs and a cat from the home and provided oxygen on scene using pet masks. The animals were taken to a veterinarian and are expected to make a full recovery. No other injuries were reported. Our thoughts are with the homeowners as they recover from the fire.

Five kittens are safe after Bay County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in Fountain on Saturday night after lightning struck the residence.

Crews arrived to find flames and smoke showing, extinguished the fire and checked for further extension. During the response, firefighters rescued five kittens inside the home, all unharmed, and returned them safely to their owner.

A great job by our crews and an especially good outcome for the kittens.

Bay County Fire Rescue crews responded Friday afternoon to a wildfire on Steelfield Road that burned approximately one acre of heavily wooded area.

The fire was advancing toward a nearby structure when our second-arriving unit quickly deployed an attack line, slowing the fire’s progress and helping protect the property.

Working alongside the Florida Forest Service, our crews worked to contain the fire while keeping the threatened structure protected. Thanks to the quick actions and teamwork of everyone on scene, the fire was brought under control in approximately one hour and ten minutes. We’re proud of the work our firefighters did on this incident and grateful for our partnership with the Florida Forest Service.

Surf Rescue Specialist Gil Mandel does it again! Mandel represented Bay County Surf Rescue at the United States Lifesaving Association National Lifeguard Championships last week, marking the division’s first appearance at the national competition.

Competing against more than 1,200 lifeguards and ocean rescue professionals from across the country, Mandel earned three top-10 finishes, including two fifth-place finishes and one eighth-place finish.

We’re proud of Gil and proud to see Bay County Surf Rescue represented on the national stage. This first trip to nationals was a great opportunity to compete against some of the best in the profession and build toward a larger team next year.

Great teamwork on the west end of Panama City Beach late Tuesday afternoon. Bay County Fire Rescue and Panama City Beach Fire Rescue worked together to quickly extinguish a fire at an outdoor cooking area at the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat before it could spread or become a larger incident.

Thanks to the quick response and fast water application, damage was minimized and no injuries were reported. The Bay County Sheriff's Office also assisted on scene.

Congratulations to Bay County CERT Coordinator Chris Tucker, recipient of the 2026 Florida CERT Distinguished Service Member Award.

Chris has been a driving force behind the county’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, helping coordinate training, emergency response, community outreach and mutual aid efforts. Since 2024, he has contributed more than 300 volunteer hours while helping lead a team that has logged more than 2,500 hours of service.

His commitment has also helped strengthen Bay County CERT into an important operational resource for Emergency Management and contributed to the team being named the 2025 CERT Team of the Year.

A 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran with decades of additional public service experience, Chris continues to give his time and expertise to support Bay County and its residents. We are proud to congratulate him on this statewide honor.
