🔥🚫 The Burn Ban Has Been Extended through April 10th 🔥🚫

The Governor has extended the Open Burn Prohibition for two more weeks. The new termination date is 11:59 PM on April 10th.

There have been a lot of questions about how this prohibition is applied. The Executive Order specifically prohibits fire chiefs from issuing open burn permits, land management burn permits and the State Fire Marshal’s Office from issuing Training Burn permits. While the prohibition does not address contained fires like burn barrels or recreational fires, I have told people that no open fires should be conducted. It is a commonsense issue. Also, Game and Parks verified that fires are not permitted on their properties until further notice.

Please reach out if you have questions.

Thanks

Please continue to be extremely careful while we experience this warm dry weather. The burn ban for ALL of Nebraska is still in place. Let's each do our part to keep Nebraska and our neighbors safe!

Nebraska is currently in extreme fire danger, and with the recent Morrill and Cottonwood Fires, it should go without saying now is NOT the time for burning. A statewide burn moratorium is also in effect.

We’re still dealing with the largest wildfire in Nebraska history: the Morrill Fire. One spark can undo a lot of hard work.

Help prevent new starts:
• Check for dragging tow chains
• Make sure tires are properly inflated
• Don’t park hot equipment or vehicles in tall grass

Please stay alert and do your part to keep Nebraska safe.

Who else is excited about the stretch of pleasant weather we will experience the rest of the week??? 🙋‍♀️

Keep in mind that it is extremely dry outside, and the statewide burn ban is still in effect. We urge everyone to exercise caution and review the following safety tips to prevent accidental fires.

🔥🔥 14 DAY BURN BAN ISSUED BY THE GOVERNOR - STATE FIRE MARSHAL 🔥🔥

Effective immediately the Governor has issued an Executive Order that bans the issuance of Open Burn Permits for 14 days.

Executive Order that bans the issuance of Open Burn Permits for 14 days. The Executive Order prohibits any fire chief or person designated by the fire chief from granting an open burn permit for any purpose. Any existing burn permit that has not been completed is null and void and open burning is not permitted for 14 consecutive days beginning now.

This order will be reviewed prior to its termination to determine the need to extend the ban. Further information will be provided prior to that date.

The Executive Order document will be issued later today when all required parties have signed it.
