We are nearing high school football season, so this month's EMS training was at Norris High School. We work hand in hand with the athletic trainer at the school to practice different scenarios that we may run into during a game. A big thank you to Chance for taking an evening to train the team. This is an important reminder that your time outside today should be limited, if possible. Even with the windows down on their rig, the temperature was above 100 degrees. Check on your neighbors and do your best to stay cool, friends! If you need us, please don't hesitate to call 911. (And we have air conditioning 😉)

It’s a HOT day out there for the city! This was taken inside of one of our rigs that does not have air conditioning, after being driven to and from a call with the WINDOWS DOWN!! And it’s only going to get hotter as the day goes on!!

Check in on each other, make sure you stay hydrated, don’t leave kids or dogs in a vehicle (even if just for a minute – vehicles heat up FAST!), and if you need a cooling center, check out Douglas County’s interactive map here: https://warmcool.dogis.org/

Volunteer numbers are down across Nebraska. It is no different here. Every department is looking for people to answer the call when our community members need us the most. On Saturday, a dedication ceremony was held at our Panama Fire Station, recognizing Chuck Krogman's selfless service to Firth Rural Fire and Rescue.

As a firefighter, Chuck was an exemplary leader, mentor, and friend. Throughout his career, he spent 30 years serving as our district fire chief, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication and leadership.

We extend our gratitude to Chuck's family for continuing to support Firth Rural Fire and Rescue. Thank you for joining us on Saturday to celebrate his life and his impact on our community.

Black Hills Energy stopped out during the pancake feed yesterday and presented our team with a $2500 grant through their program called Funds for Firefighters.

Every day, volunteer firefighters step up to protect our communities — often with limited resources and a whole lot of heart. The Funds for Firefighters grant program was created to support those efforts and to recognize Black Hills Energy employees and family members who also serve as volunteer firefighters.

Through this program, Black Hills Energy helps local departments get the essential equipment and safety gear they need to stay protected and do their jobs effectively across our service territories.

Our chicken drop was a big hit this morning! Congrats to Matt Scott for splitting the winnings with us. He walked away with a full stomach and $200 in cash! Thank so much for coming out and supporting us today!
