During CPR, you should perform chest compressions at a rate of 100 to 120 beats per minute. This translates to about two compressions per second. Here are some songs that can help you keep that rhythm when performing CPR.

Are you familiar with how to use an AED? Do you know if an AED is available at your work or where it is located? This is a perfect time to ask!

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are designed to be easy to use, and most AEDs will walk you through each step - from applying the pads, to helping you count your CPR compressions.

Always call 911 and start CPR first, if you witness a sudden cardiac arrest. Ask another person to bring you the AED, if another person is available.

Turn on the AED and apply the pads to bare skin. (There are typically images on the pads that show you where to place them)

Next the AED will tell you it is analyzing the heart rhythm. Make sure no one is touching the person while this happens. Once done, the AED will tell you to resume CPR, or to deliver a shock. If you need to deliver a shock make sure no one is touching the person, and follow the instructions that the AED provides to deliver the shock.

Once complete, resume CPR, and continue to follow the prompts from the AED until EMS arrives.

These simple steps can help you save a life!

BYSTANDER CPR SAVES LIVES

Unfortunately, less than half of people who experience an out- of-hospital cardiac arrest receive CPR before professional help arrives.

Women are less likely to receive CPR from a bystander. Barriers include fear of legal ramifications and accusations of inappropriate touching.

However, CPR, especially if performed immediately,
can double, or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.

How can you help? Take a few minutes to learn how to perform hands only CPR.
