Tideland Electric Membership Corporation is a not-for-profit cooperative born from the merger of four electric utilities. Pamlico Power and Light headquartered in Engelhard, NC, which began electric service on June 11, 1935, was the oldest of the four companies. It also had the distinction of being the only investor owned utility among the merged companies, owned largely by its operator Peleg Dame

ron "P.D." South of the Pamlico River, Pamlico-Beaufort EMC energized its first line on July 27, 1942, with Grantsboro serving as its central office. Across the sound, Ocracoke EMC received its charter on August 17, 1944, and resumed electric service after a hurricane demolished generators owned and operated by Ocracoke Power and Light, a venture started by legendary island entrepreneur, R.S. Soon thereafter, at the stroke of midnight on December 14, 1944, Woodstock EMC inaugurated its own electric service to residents in the Belhaven and Pantego areas of Beaufort County. Tideland EMC was incorporated in 1971 with the merger of Pamlico-Beaufort EMC and Woodstock EMC. On January 1, 1973, Ocracoke EMC merged with Tideland. And on March 31, 1975, Pamlico Power and Light's ownership was transferred to Tideland EMC. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

Thankful for today’s rainfall in northeastern Beaufort County. The damaging wind? Not so much. Thank you to each Tideland team member that answered the call today to serve.

7 pm update: Additional men and equipment have been called in to assist with storm repairs. The Howell’s Mill / Acre Station outage is expected to be restored between 8:30 and 9 pm this evening.

4:15 pm update: Crews have to replace a 40 ft broken pole and a transformer.

Power outage on the Howell’s Mill / Acre Station circuit. Tideland crews have been notified.

6:35 pm update: Power restored to all but one meter inside Pamlico Plantation where crews are now headed. 6:18 pm update...

6:35 pm update: Power restored to all but one meter inside Pamlico Plantation where crews are now headed.

6:18 pm update: Crews are still working on the Plantation circuit.

As of 5:56 pm we have restored power to all 514 meters on Plantation circuit. We are still communicating with field personnel who are wrapping up on site work.

5:43 pm: Crews have been able to restore one phase of the circuit while work continues on the two remaining phases.

Power outage on the Plantation circuit out of Washington substation. 514 members impacted. Tideland crews dispatched. Outage cause is not yet known.

Unfortunately, power is back off as of 9:55 pm. Crews are still in the area and will continue troubleshooting.
