Purpose: The Sheriff maintains this page for the purposes of: engaging and interacting with our community; promoting the agency's activities, events, and programs; providing relevant and timely community news, information and events; distribution of crime prevention and public safety tips; urgent notifications of critical incidents which may affect county residents, business owners and visitors; and interacting with those people having an interest in the Miami County, Kansas Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff welcomes a person's right to express his/her opinion and encourages posters to keep comments appropriate and relevant to the topic in question. The posting of any content or comment on this page by any visitor, follower, subscriber or fan, constitutes acceptance of the terms of use described here in this policy. Assistance: Posting requests for law enforcement assistance (emergency or non-emergency) is discouraged and will not guarantee a response by the Sheriff's Office or any emergency service provider. You may remain anonymous if you wish. If you post information related to a crime, you may be placing yourself in a position of becoming a witness and subject to being subpoenaed into court. Endorsements: Friending or Liking the Sheriff's Office or a Deputy or employee of the Sheriff does not indicate an endorsement of that person's actions or comments. A comment posted by a member of the public on the Sheriff’s page is the opinion of that person only and does not reflect the opinion of the Miami County, Kansas Sheriff. Publication or comments or other postings does not imply endorsement or agreement by the Sheriff. Such comments or other posts do not necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of the Sheriff. Content, Standards and Moderation of Posted Content: The Miami County Sheriff’s Office welcomes and encourages relevant, appropriate and family friendly contributions and comments from visitors. We encourage you to ask questions and share comments on any of our activities and postings. Our social media team monitors our social media profile and pages but is not responsible for content generated by users. Most comments are accepted, but we are not obligated to respond to comments. The Miami County, KS Sheriff’s Office requires that all posts to this page adhere to Facebook’s Community Standards located at http://www.facebook.com/communitystandards and reserves the right to report any standards violation to Facebook with the intent of Facebook taking appropriate and reasonable responsive action. We use platform-provided content moderation/filtering options to limit foul or obscene content. We will also monitor and remove inappropriate content as defined below, without prior notice, and as soon as possible. We do not discriminate against any views, but will remove any posts of inappropriate material as determined by us in our sole and complete discretion. This material may include, but is not limited to:
- Comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible comments;
- Profane, obscene, or pornographic content and/or language;
- Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates a hostile work environment or other types of discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, or national origin;

- Solicitation of commerce, including but not limited to advertising of any business or product for sale;
- Encouragement of illegal activity;
- Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems;
- Content that violates a legal ownership interest, such as a copyright, of any party;
- Harassment or content which constitutes and/or facilitates stalking;
- Content which violates the right to privacy;
- Repetitive content;
- Comments which may reasonably interfere with, inhibit, or compromise law enforcement investigations, tactics, responses to incidents and/or the safety of law enforcement officers and staff.
- Posts or comments that transmit viruses or other disruptive or destructive files, materials or code.
- Repeated violations of our comment policy may cause the author to be blocked from the Miami County, KS Sheriff's Office social media accounts at any time and without prior notice. If you wish to contest the removal or hiding of your content, or your denial of access to our social media accounts, you may do so by contacting us at (913) 294-3232 and requesting to speak to a member of our social media team. In addition, should you (the end user) be formally charged with a criminal offense or be arrested in connection with a criminal offense, your image and identifying information along with details of the offense may be displayed on our page.
