Press Release: Officer Alyshia Sauer Sworn In to Serve the Town of Parachute

The Town of Parachute is pleased to announce the official swearing‑in of Officer Alyshia Sauer as the newest member of the Parachute Police Department. The ceremony, held at Town Hall, was conducted by Mayor Tom Rugaard, and the Oath of Office was administered by Town Clerk Choate, formally welcoming Officer Sauer into her new role.

Officer Sauer is no stranger to the community - she previously served the Town as its Community Service Officer, where she built strong relationships with residents and demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public service. Her return to the department in a sworn capacity reflects both her dedication and the Town’s confidence in her continued service.

The ceremony included a badge‑pinning moment shared with family, fellow officers, and Town staff, followed by warm congratulations and a small community celebration.

The Town of Parachute proudly welcomes Officer Sauer back to the department and looks forward to the positive impact she will continue to make in her expanded role.

🚧 I-70 Traffic Alert: West Rifle & Rulison Area 🚧

Motorists traveling on Interstate 70 should expect traffic impacts through July 2 due to settlement repair and paving operations.

🚫 24/7 Closures & Restrictions
West Rifle (Exit 87) westbound on-ramp is CLOSED 24/7 through July 2.
Drivers entering westbound I-70 should use the Rifle (Exit 90) or Rulison (Exit 81) on-ramps.
Westbound I-70: Left lane closed 24/7 from Mile Point 86 to Mile Point 87.
12-foot width restriction on westbound I-70.
Wide-load detour: Exit at West Rifle (Exit 87) and use U.S. Highway 6.

🚧 Weekday Traffic Impacts

Monday–Friday | 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Single-lane closures in both directions from Mile Point 84 (east of Rulison) to Mile Point 86 (near West Rifle/Exit 87).
12-foot width restriction in both directions.
Eastbound wide loads: Use Exit 81.
Westbound wide loads: Use Exit 87.
⏱️ Expect delays of up to 20 minutes.
🚗 Reduced speed limit of 55 mph through the work zone.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and slow down for crews working in the area.

Sending our deepest condolences and love to our brothers and sisters in blue during this heartbreaking time. We stand with you as you mourn the loss of your family members. 🖤💙🖤

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Welcome back Chief Klein!

🚔 Welcome Back, Chief Tommy Klein!

The City of Rifle is pleased to announce that the Rifle City Council has confirmed City Manager Patrick Waller's appointment of Thomas "Tommy" Klein Jr. as the City's next Chief of Police.

Chief Klein brings more than 30 years of law enforcement and municipal leadership experience and returns to Rifle after previously serving as Chief of Police from 2017 to 2021 and as City Manager from 2021 to 2024.

Following a nationwide recruitment process, Chief Klein was selected from 16 applicants after a comprehensive interview process involving City leadership, Police Department staff, and the community.
