📜 27th Amendment (1992)
💵 Congress can’t give itself an immediate pay raise. Any changes to salaries only take effect after the next election.

Why it mattered: Ensures accountability, so lawmakers can’t instantly benefit from their own decisions. 🏛️⚖️

In April 1860, a small group of pioneers arrived at the southern tip of Cache Valley. Surrounded by lush hills and vibrant wildflowers, they knew they had found something special. They called it "Paradise"—and the name stuck. From a vulnerable mountain settlement to an incorporated town in 1907, the story of Paradise, Utah, is one of pure resilience.

Two histories. One spirit of independence.

On Cinco de Mayo, we remember the victory at the Battle of Puebla—a moment when determination and courage defied the odds.

As we approach United States Semiquincentennial, we reflect on our own journey toward liberty.

Though our paths are different, both stories remind us that freedom is never guaranteed—it’s earned, defended, and celebrated across generations.

Here’s to resilience, heritage, and the enduring pursuit of independence. 🇺🇸🇲🇽

On May 4, 1776, Rhode Island made history—becoming the first of the thirteen colonies to declare independence from British rule.

Two months before the Declaration of Independence, this small but bold colony took a stand, renouncing allegiance to King George III and paving the way for a new nation.

Small in size. Powerful in courage.

On May 3, 1776, the American Revolution reached a psychological point of no return when the Continental Congress received word that British "Peace Commissioners" were arriving with offers of royal pardons. Led by figures like John Adams, the Patriots firmly rejected the offer, realizing that King George III was not addressing their grievances but simply offering mercy for "treason." By turning their backs on this final attempt at reconciliation, the colonists signaled that they were no longer interested in being forgiven subjects, setting a direct and irreversible course toward the Declaration of Independence just two months later.

On this day in 1776, a critical turning point in the American Revolution occurred. King Louis XVI of France officially authorized one million livres in secret aid to the Continental Army.

To hide this covert support from the British, the French government established a shell company, Rodrigue Hortalez et Cie. This massive influx of funds was essential for securing the gunpowder, muskets, and uniforms that would prove decisive in the campaigns to come, ultimately paving the way for the victory at Saratoga.
