๐จ๐ฃ๐๐๐ง๐: A smoky fire that may have been sparked by a smoldering piece of foam was kept in check by sprinklers and doused by firefighters at a plant in Moonachie.
The multi-alarm fire ignited around 5 p.m. (Feb. 27th) in a one-story State Street building at Woodbridge Inoac USA, which manufactures polyurethane foam for air filtration, sound insulation and medical applications.
It initially came in as a water-flow alarm, responders said.
"The first arriving police officer reported heavy smoke coming from the building, prompting [the fire chief] to immediately transmit the second alarm, bringing additional fire units to the scene from surrounding towns," the Moonachie Fire Department reported.
The department added:
"Companies fed the sprinkler system & began aggressive interior attack, with multiple handlines knocking down fire in foam products in the warehouse.
"Additional alarms were transmitted, bringing more companies to the scene to assist with ventilation and overhaul."
The scene remained active for several hours.
"Once the fire was knocked down, companies rotated through rehab," the Moonachie FD reported. "Members operated forklifts in the building to move foam product around to complete extinguishment.
"The cause of the fire is currently under investigation."
Mutual aid at the scene and in coverage included firefighters from Carlstadt, Rutherford, Ridgefield Park, East Rutherford, Wood-Ridge, Little Ferry, South Hackensack, Wallington, Hasbrouck Heights, Hackensack, Rochelle Park, Garfield and Maywood.
Paramus firefighters brought their ventilation trailer. The Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad and DPW also responded.
