REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates must:

Be 21 years of age prior to appointment
Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license
Successfully pass a Firefighter Agility Test
Successfully pass a written examination
Successfully complete an oral interview
Successfully pass a background investigation
Successfully complete a physical examination
Successfully complete a psychological examination

Nominations are now open for the first official Downstate Illinois Tourism Awards, celebrating outstanding tourism-related businesses, attractions, events, organizations, and individuals making a difference in their communities and the visitor experience.

We encourage you to take a few minutes to submit your nominations and help recognize those who go above and beyond to make Downstate Illinois a great place to visit.

Nominations are open through September 18.

The three most-nominated finalists in each category will be invited to the Annual Discover Downstate Illinois Dinner and featured in a slideshow highlighting their businesses. Attendees will then cast their votes live to determine this year’s winners.

Traffic Note: Wednesday

The American Legion Riders will be coming through Paris tomorrow afternoon on their way to Terre Haute. Please expect that your traffic will be disturbed for a little bit as 250 motorcycles roll through town. Please let your friends know that they are coming and to show your support. This is the 20th year that the ride has been put on and it is inspiring site to see.

They are estimating around 4:50 p.m. in the afternoon. They will be stopping in Charleston for a gas stop then coming on Highway 16 toward Kansas... straight through on Jasper Street/ Highway 150 in Paris on the way toward Terre Haute.

Last night, at the City Council meeting, the American Legion Post 211 17U Division Baseball State Champions took their place at the front of the room and received some well-deserved recognition and the Key to the city during the proclamation, that mayor Smith read and the council endorsed. Congratulations to Coach Marc Dalby, assistant coaches and our State Championship team.

Some of the boys couldn’t make it to city council meeting last night to be recognized because they were already at football practice.

Once again we thank you all for your hard work and dedication and making our city proud.
