With the dry conditions and high temperatures across Lamar County, our firefighters and first responders are working long hours in difficult conditions. If you would like to help, Lamar County CERT will be collecting bottled water, Gatorade, Powerade, electrolyte drinks, and snacks for them tomorrow. They will ensure they get where they are needed the most.

5:05pm Update: The highway is now open. Thank you to all who have helped and are helping today. There are still units out there so please use caution.

Update: traffic is being diverted down Airport Road. 271 South from Airport Road to the county line is open.

🚨 PLEASE AVOID THE AREA 🚨

We currently have multiple fires actively burning in Lamar County near US 271 South.

Please stay clear of US 271 South from the Paris city limits to the County line.

Again, please avoid this area and use an alternate route until further notice.

🚨 LAMAR COUNTY BURN BAN EXTENDED - 30 DAYS 🚨

Lamar County has officially extended the current Burn Ban for an additional 30 days.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for North and Central Texas through this evening, with high temperatures up to 110° and heat index values from 102° to 112°. Extreme heat is dangerous, especially for those without reliable shelter. Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours (2 to 7 PM), rest in shade or air conditioning, and drink plenty of water.

..EXTREME HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 108 degrees.

* WHERE...North Texas.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions when outside by staying hydrated, wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing, and limiting strenuous activities to the early morning or evening. Check up on relatives and neighbors. Never leave young children or pets in an enclosed vehicle, even for a short time, as temperatures can quickly rise to
life-threatening levels.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk when outdoors, the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911 ASAP if you or someone you know is exhibiting signs of heat stroke.

Extreme heat is dangerous, especially for those without reliable shelter. Limit time outdoors during the hottest time of the day, typically from 2 to 7 PM, rest in the shade when possible, and drink plenty of water. Locate nearby cooling centers through local resources or dial 2-1-1 in Texas.

🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR LAMAR COUNTY 🔥

A Burn Ban is in effect for Lamar County for the next seven days due to increased fire danger.

Please avoid all outdoor burning and use extra caution with anything that could create a spark or ignite dry vegetation. With current conditions, fires can start quickly and spread rapidly.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 107.

* WHERE...Portions of North, Central, and East Texas.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent

🔴 EXTREME FIRE RISK FOR LAMAR COUNTY 🔴

The Texas A&M Forest Service has upgraded Lamar County to Extreme Fire Danger. A combination of bone-dry ground conditions, triple-digit summer heat, and gusty winds means any spark can start a fast-moving wildfire that will be very hard to contain.

While there is no formal countywide burn ban in place at this exact moment, local officials urge extreme caution.

Help protect our community with these critical safety steps:
❌ Avoid all unnecessary outdoor burning.
🚜 Do not park or idle vehicles in tall, dry grass.
⛓️ Secure trailer chains to ensure they do not drag and create sparks on the road.
⚙️ Postpone outdoor welding, grinding, or cutting until weather conditions improve.
🚯 Never toss cigarette butts out of car windows.

If you spot a wildfire or see smoke, do not wait-call 911 immediately.
