Fellow Booster: Let’s work to be the party that gets things done for ordinary people, while Donald Trump and his Republican Party work to get tax breaks for billionaires, taxpayer money for a slush fund to pay off felons and taxpayer protection for pedophiles. Here are some concrete things you can do this week:

• Mark your calendar for Democrat Day at the Edgar County Fair on July 21. We want to put together the best program ever for this year’s fair but need your support – in time, resources and enthusiasm – to make it happen. One of our activities that day will be a “community baby shower.” Contact [email protected] to pledge $20 to help struggling parents cover the (rising) cost of diapers.
• Join your fellow Boosters in support of the Helping Hands soup kitchen from 11:00-1:00 on Friday, June 26. We had a great turnout last week and want to make this a regular part of our support for the community. Sign up by emailing [email protected].
• CBS cancelled “The Colbert Show” because the host made fun of Trump, but we can have the last laugh. Make it clear that companies that cave to Republican efforts to restrict speech will pay a price and stop watching CBS and cancel your Paramount+ streaming subscription.
• The organizers of the “No Kings” movement are planning a day of concerts and protests on June 14. Watch this space for more information about events in our area.

Wins of the Week

• A judge threw out the case against an immigrant living legally in the United States as “vindictive and selective prosecution” after the Trump administration targeted him because he had sued the U.S. government for illegally imprisoning and deporting him in 2025. The man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, has been reunited with his American citizen wife and children.
• Republicans in Texas chose Ken Paxton, whose qualifications to be their party’s nominee include allegations of securities fraud, bribery, abuse of office, retribution against whistleblowers, and infidelity make him the perfect candidate for Trump’s Republican party. The clear contrast between Paxton and Democratic candidate James Talarico gives Democrats an important opportunity in November.

So, on the subject of fiscal responsibility, in less than six years as President, Donald Trump is responsible for 28% of our national debt. $11 trillion. In 250 years of American history, no president has added more.

EDGAR COUNTY DEMOCRAT BOOSTERS CLUB
Fellow Booster: It is easy to become numb or discouraged in the face of what Donald Trump and his party are doing in Washington (and what Mary Miller is not doing here in Edgar County). Here are some things to do this week to feel a little less numb:

· Help Mary Miller grow a spine. Probably the only thing our Congresswoman loves more than Donald Trump’s agenda is her cushy job rubberstamping it in Washington. Let her know that she might have to choose between those two by calling her office. She won’t take your call but her staff keeps track of how many calls come in on specific issues. Be polite but there is no need to say you are not a fan. Here’s a possible script and some phone numbers to try:
o “Hi. I have voted in Mary Miller’s district for years and never called before but wanted to tell her that my friends and I saw on Fox News that the President wants $1 billion in our tax money for his ballroom and $1.8 billion for his supporters. She needs to know that people here are having a hard time putting gas in their tanks and will be mad as *&@$!! If Congress approves spending money like that.
o Washington Office (202) 225-5271; Mahomet Office (217) 703-6100
· Make a plan to enter something in the Edgar Couty Fair. The fair is one of great traditions of this part of the country. Help support it by being part of it; the Fair Book with a list of all categories, from vegetables to fine arts, is here. But you won’t have award-winning beans in July unless you get seeds in the ground now!

Wins of the Week

· On May 21, Republicans in the House scrapped a vote requiring the President to either secure Congressional approval for his illegal, unauthorized war in Iran or end it after it became clear that they would lose.
· Trump’s slush fund that he could use to pay off supporters – including those convicted of assaulting law enforcement personnel, sexually abusing children and others – is so unpopular that Senate Republicans have stopped working on a funding bill that would expand his (equally unpopular and equally lawless) unchecked use of masked, unidentifiable immigration agents to accost, threaten and detain essentially anyone they chose.

Has anyone seen Congresswoman Mary Miller? She used to talk all the time about waste, fraud and abuse but now that the President gave his buddy a $12 million no-bid contract to paint the Reflecting Pool the color of a blue raspberry ICEE, she seems to have vanished! People should be worried!!
