On Saturday, April 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Booneville Police Department, and the Paris Police Department will be participating in drug takeback events in Logan County.

Bring your pills for disposal to WalMart Supercenter in Booneville at 1400 E Main Street (Highway 10) or Harps in Paris at 1004 East Walnut Street (Highway 22). (Sites cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

In 2024 Americans turned in nearly 460 tons (more than 900,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and almost 4,800 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Previous Take Back events have taken in over 11 million pounds—nearly 5,500 tons—of pills.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows year after year that the majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else’s medication being stolen from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Today we recognize and congratulate Dispatcher Jerry Ezell on his retirement after 26 years of dedicated service to the Paris Police Department.

For more than two decades, Jerry has been the calm voice on the other end of the radio and phone. Throughout his career he has worked under several chiefs, assisted countless officers, and answered more calls than anyone could possibly count. Dispatchers truly are the front line of a police department and the lifeline for officers in the field, and Jerry has fulfilled that role with professionalism, reliability, and dedication.

Jerry’s commitment to public service extends well beyond the police department. Over the years he has also served the community as part of Logan County EMS and as a firefighter with local rural fire departments, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to helping others in times of need.

We are incredibly grateful for Jerry’s years of service to our officers, our department, and the citizens of our community.

Please join us in thanking Jerry Ezell for his service and wishing him and his wife Lisa all the best as they begin this new chapter in retirement.

At 10:00 a.m. this morning we received a call about an individual who was on the grounds of St. Joseph's school carrying a firearm. Officers responded and contacted the individual who was no longer on school property and initially refused to drop his firearm. The individual eventually disarmed and was taken into custody.

There is no threat to the public or any of the schools at this time.

Recent drug arrests:

On December 10th, 2025, Sergeant Moore, Officers Holman and Baine, and Agents with Probation and Parole went to a residence in Paris to conduct a Probation/parole compliance check on John Harris and Virginia Robinson, who are both on active supervision with search waivers on file. Contact was made with both individuals as well as a Billy Leggett who also has a search waiver, and a search was conducted. During the search, items of drug paraphernalia that contained white crystal like residue were located. The residue on each item located field tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The evidence was collected and Sergeant Moore filed for warrants on all three subjects for Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Those warrants were issued, and all three subjects were subsequently arrested.

On January 4th, 2026, Sergeant Moore and Officer Baine went to the residence of Karl Bradley who is on active supervision with a search waiver on file, to conduct a search. Contact was made with Bradley and a search was conducted. While escorting Bradley to his room in the residence, Officer Baine saw Bradley remove something from his pants pocket and place it on a shelf in the bathroom. Officer Baine stopped to examine the items placed on the shelf by Bradley and discovered they were items of drug paraphernalia that contained a crystal like residue. The residue field tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine. Bradley was subsequently charged with Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
