To the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department and the Family of Deputy Adam Sherifi,

The Men and Women of the Paris Police Department extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences during this time of profound grief. There are no words sufficient to ease the pain of losing a husband, father, and brother in blue. Deputy Sherifi’s ultimate sacrifice while serving his community exemplifies the absolute highest standard of bravery and dedication. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department, the Canton Police Department, and the entire law enforcement community as you mourn this devastating loss.

Deputy Sherifi was assisting the Canton Police Department with serving outstanding felony warrants at a residence in the 4300 block of State Highway 198. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel were met with immediate gunfire coming from inside the home. In the ensuing exchange, Deputy Sherifi suffered fatal wounds. A Canton Police Officer was also injured during the encounter and is currently recovering, while the suspect was found deceased at the scene.

To Deputy Sherifi’s wife, his three beautiful children, and his extended family: please know that you are not alone. The legacy of honor and courage he leaves behind will never be forgotten, and our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support are with you now and in the difficult days ahead. May you find strength in each other, comfort in his memory, and peace in knowing his sacrifice will forever be honored.

Friends of the Police Department and Kortni Jones.... A Benefit Luncheon for Kortni is being held on Saturday, October 24th from 12:00-Noon - 6 pm at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds. There will be a silent auction, bake sale, Spaghetti luncheon for $10 / plate, and Gun-go (Bingo for Guns) games. The Gungo games start at 2:30. We also have raffle tickets for a custom-built AR-15 R***e. Please reach out to Michelle Melton or Holly Brewer for any questions. On October 9, 2026, the Paris Police Dept. gathered for the Fifth Annual Chris Widner Memorial Cookout. His parents, Manuel and Laura Widner, his wife, Michelle Widner and daughter, Chelsie were in attendance. Cpt. Thompson and Sgt. Bigler (dear friends to Det. Widner) are always present, supporting the Widner family.
Just days before the Fourth of July in 2021, Detective Chris Widner wanted nothing more than to bring a little extra light and joy to the department. He approached Chief Salter with a simple, genuine idea of him grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone. He didn't ask for department funds, he insisted on taking care of everything. That selfless gesture was Detective Widner to his absolute core: a man who always put others first and sought out ways to lift spirits. Tragically, as the holiday weekend passed and a new week began, a deep shadow fell over the department. Detective Widner fell ill with COVID-19, and on August 22, 2021, his end of watch arrived far too soon. The loss was profound, but his spirit of kindness lived on. To honor his memory, Chief Salter vowed to turn that very cookout into an annual tradition.

**REMINDER! The traffic pattern has changed in front of the Boys and Girls Club on NE 1st Street and it is a ONE WAY STREET GOING NORTH. Please watch for signs there and pay close attention. Thank you!**

The City of Paris recently implemented a traffic control change near the Boys and Girls Club of the Red River Valley to enhance safety for children entering and exiting the club.

The 1500 block of NE 1st Street is now one-way northbound from E. Hickory St. to E. Center St., with one-way and wrong-way signage in place.

Please make note of this change when driving in the area. Police are monitoring this section of NE 1st in front of the Boys and Girls Club, and drivers going the wrong way may be subject to a fine.
