Volunteers are needed to help make Main Street Nights a more sustainable community event!

The Village of Park Forest Sustainability Office is seeking **Waste Recovery Ambassadors** to assist attendees with properly sorting compost, recycling, and landfill materials during Main Street Nights. This is a great opportunity to support environmental efforts, connect with your community, and enjoy an evening of live music.

No experience is necessary. Training will be provided onsite.

• Promote recycling and composting education
• Meet new people and engage with your community
• Enjoy the Main Street Nights atmosphere and entertainment
• Earn community service hours, if needed

It's International Compost Awareness Week

Compost is created by recycling organic materials like food scraps and yard waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Instead of sending these materials to landfills, composting returns valuable nutrients back to the earth and improves soil health. It is a simple way to make a meaningful impact.

Looking to start composting? The Sustainability Office only has a handful left of backyard composters or better yet, stop by the Compost display at the Park Forest Public Library and enter the raffle for a chance to win one.

Annual plastic garden pot and tray recycling program is back! May 1st - July 1st drop off your empty, clean pots and trays in the collection bins located in the Village Hall lobby.

They are responsibly reused or recycled at Van Kalker Farms & Greenhouses 1808 E. Joe Orr Rd. Lynwood. Going shopping there? They have a collection container in their parking lot as well.

Need pots or trays for your gardening projects? Residents are welcome to take from the collection before purchasing new.

This program helps promote reuse first, proper recycling second, and reduces unnecessary landfill waste.

Please remember: Plastic garden pots and trays are NOT accepted in your curbside recycling program.

Successful Spring Shred/Drug Takeback in the books!

We served 190 cars with the help of 5 dedicated volunteers—shredding mountains of sensitive documents and safely collecting 39 pounds of medications.

A big thank you to the Park Forest Environment Commission, the Park Forest Police Department for handling medication collection, and Homewood Disposal for sponsoring recycling bins for cardboard and providing a landfill dumpster for any unaccepted items.

Mark your calendars—next up is our annual RecycleFest on July 25th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the same location. See you there!
