Even if you were walking through your path through the woods every day for years do not think that you have already seen all what's there. It just happen to me.
I hiked through my local woods for years. And I'm always finding something new, something what sometimes deeply surprising me, like this American Red Squirrel.
Species very common in the North Woods of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan or northern New England, but here, in Illinois?
I do not recall seeing one here, even if we are in within southern reaches of their range.
Big surprise, especially here, that close to home.
It did not happened in the Dam #4, but very close to it, in one of the Forest Preserves bordering it.
