Carla Owen for D207 School Board

Carla Owen for D207 School Board I am running for reelection to the Maine Township District 207 School Board, which oversees Maine East, Maine South and Maine West.

District 207 has a proud history and a long list of accomplishments, many of which I have witnessed during my 8 years serving you on the Board. Over the past year or so, school districts like ours have had to balance student education and engagement with concerns for the health of our community. At the same time, we see in our country racial and political unrest and great divisions and concerns on

a number of issues. These things do not stop at the doors of our schools, they affect and are on the minds of our many and diverse students. All of this has only reinforced for me the importance of strong public education to ensure a more safe and peaceful future for us all. Our children are our future and they deserve the best foundation we can give them to be critical thinkers, good leaders and responsible citizens. The District is also currently moving through a multi-year major renovation project at each of our schools. This work is bringing state-of-the-art collaborative spaces to our buildings, along with less obvious but just as important infrastructure improvements. While we haven't had as many students in our buildings over the past year or so, we've had a lot going on in those buildings! My years on the Board are an asset as the District manages many different and complex things at once. I have the confidence to make difficult decisions. I also know how important it is to have an open mind and listen to all perspectives before making those decisions. I have served as Board President for three years, and have served on all of our Board committees, most recently as the Chair of the Policy committee, and as a member of the Education committee. I’m committed to use my experience and strengths to help our district continue to provide a world-class education to all of our students, during these difficult times and beyond. I know that more success and better days lie ahead for Distrit 207, and I’m excited to continue to be a part of it. That is why I am asking for you to please VOTE FOR CARLA OWEN on APRIL 6th! For more information about me, please see my website. You may also contact me via this page or via email at [email protected] if you have questions or comments about my campaign, or about the school district. I will do my best to get back to you asap.

With all but some absentee ballots counted, I am happy to report that I have been re-elected to serve on the D207 Board!

Thank you all for your support and encouragement during the campaign. Thank you to those of you who were worker bees and helped me get signatures, deliver signs and door hangers and otherwise spoke up for me and my candidacy. You know who you are. I am grateful to you.

I consider it a privilege to serve on the D207 Board, and I promise to work hard to serve our communities and the District. Continuing to earn your trust and confidence is my task now, and I'll get back to it.

Making sure that we serve all of our students is the most important and challenging work we face. Read more about where we started and where we are going here:

District 207 started its Equity Journey over a decade ago when Dr. Wallace set a course for the District to better serve ALL students. Over the years we have sought to break down the barriers that limited access to academic rigor and robust support for students regardless of identity and perceived a...
