Volunteer Spotlight: Park Ridge Lions Club

One of the many great organizations that joined us at the Park Ridge Volunteer Fair was the Park Ridge Lions Club.

For generations, the Lions have quietly made a tremendous impact in our community through service, fundraising, and support for those in need. Whether they're helping local families, supporting vision-related causes, sponsoring community initiatives, or bringing people together through fun events, the Lions embody what volunteerism is all about—neighbors helping neighbors.

If you've ever thought about getting more involved in the community, the Park Ridge Lions are a wonderful place to start. They are always looking for people who want to make a difference, build friendships, and give back to the community they call home.

And speaking of giving back, one of their most unique and entertaining fundraisers is coming up soon...

🏃 The Park Ridge Lions Micro Marathon! 🏃

What's a Micro Marathon? Exactly what it sounds like—a 0.260-mile "marathon" around the block. No months of training. No sore muscles. No pressure. Just a fun event for a great cause.

This year's event benefits Compass to Care, helping remove transportation barriers for children battling cancer and their families.

Your registration includes:
• Event t-shirt
• Swag bag
• Food and drinks
• Raffle entry

Adults: $50
Kids under 12: Free (no t-shirt)

Register here ----> https://docsmicrothon.com/

Whether you're looking to volunteer, support a worthy cause, or simply claim you've completed a marathon before lunch, this is a great opportunity to get involved.

Thank you to the Park Ridge Lions Club for all they do to strengthen our community. We hope to see many residents out supporting this fun event and learning more about how they can get involved with the Lions.

One of the questions I get most often this time of year is whether the Park Ridge Police Department offers vacation watch services.

The answer is yes!

If you're heading out of town this summer, you can submit a Vacation Watch Request through the Police Department's online portal. While officers cannot guarantee daily checks, your home will be added to the list of residences officers monitor while on patrol, as time and workload permit. The form also allows you to provide emergency contact information and other details that may be helpful while you're away.

Before you leave, take a few minutes to complete the form:

Whether you're away for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation, it's one more way to help keep your home safe and give you a little extra peace of mind while you're traveling.

Safe travels, Park Ridge!

Together Park Ridge: Calling All Our “Cereal” Supporters!

Why did the cereal get invited to every community event?
Because it was always willing to bowl people over with kindness.

One thing that has become clear over the first six months of Together Park Ridge is this: when our community sees a need, it responds. Month after month, residents have donated soup, socks, diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies, personal care items, and so much more. Time and again, you have demonstrated what makes Park Ridge such a special place—a willingness to look out for one another and lend a helping hand.
This month, we are celebrating all of our “cereal” supporters with a collection focused on breakfast and grab-and-go food items.

We are collecting:
• Cereal
• Oatmeal and instant oatmeal packets
• Cereal bars and breakfast bars
• Granola bars and energy bars
• Individual snack packs
• Other grab-and-go food items

Why these items? Because they are convenient, nutritious, and easy for busy families, students, seniors, and individuals facing food insecurity to take with them throughout the day.

Food pantries and community organizations across the country continue to report increased demand for assistance, and many are preparing for additional pressure as changes to SNAP benefits and funding impact vulnerable households. At the same time, the cost of groceries remains a challenge for many families. A simple box of cereal or package of granola bars may seem small, but for someone struggling to make ends meet, it can make a meaningful difference.

Donations can be dropped off at:
• City Hall
• Our screened-in porch
• Park Ridge Presbyterian Church
• Cooney Funeral Home
• Ordered off of our Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1QRVPYM6RA8VM?ref_=wl_share

Here is our challenge to the community: the next time you are at the grocery store, pick up just one extra item. One box of cereal. One package of oatmeal. One box of granola bars. If every family reading this added just one item to their cart, together we could make a tremendous impact.

That is how communities like ours work. Not through one grand gesture, but through hundreds of small acts of kindness that add up to something extraordinary.

Thank you for continuing to show up for one another. Thank you for being such incredible "cereal" supporters. And thank you for helping ensure that no neighbor has to face hunger alone.

Together, we are building a stronger, more caring Park Ridge.

Volunteer Spotlight: Park Ridge Farmers Market

As we continue highlighting organizations from our Volunteer Fair, today we are excited to recognize the Park Ridge Farmers Market – something many of enjoyed yesterday!

From fresh produce and flowers to baked goods, local vendors, and friendly conversations, the Farmers Market has become one of Park Ridge's favorite community traditions. Each Saturday from May through October, residents gather to shop local, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere that makes our community so special.

What many people may not realize is that it takes hundreds of volunteer hours throughout the year to make the market a success. From setup and operations to special events, children's activities, and helping vendors and visitors, volunteers play a critical role in creating the welcoming experience that so many of us enjoy each week.
The Farmers Market is more than just a place to shop. It is a community gathering place that brings people together, supports local businesses, and helps showcase the best of Park Ridge.

If you enjoy the Farmers Market and are looking for a way to give back to the community, consider volunteering. Whether you can help occasionally or throughout the season, your time and talents can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you to the dedicated volunteers, Committee members, and supporters who help make the Park Ridge Farmers Market possible year after year. Your efforts help create one of our community's most cherished traditions.

Volunteer Spotlight: Park Ridge Friends of the Parks

As we continue highlighting organizations from our recent Volunteer Fair, today we are proud to recognize Park Ridge Friends of the Parks.

Since 2006, Park Ridge Friends of the Parks has worked to support and enhance the parks, facilities, and recreational programs that help make our community such a special place to live. Their mission is simple but important: support quality recreational resources for all residents while preserving and enhancing our community's green spaces.

Through the years, Friends of the Parks has made a lasting impact by planting more than 100 trees in our parks, providing scholarship assistance to more than 100 individuals so they could participate in recreational programs, and helping fund social work services for seniors at the Centennial Activity Center.

Their work is guided by a dedicated Board of Directors, a Junior Advisory Board, and a team of volunteers who share a passion for strengthening our parks and community.

Whether your interests are conservation, recreation, community service, or helping create opportunities for others, Friends of the Parks offers meaningful ways to get involved and make a difference.

To learn more about volunteer opportunities, membership, or upcoming events such as Pedal for the Parks, visit the Park Ridge Friends of the Parks website.

Thank you to Park Ridge Friends of the Parks for all you do to help preserve, improve, and support the places where our community gathers, plays, and connects.

This Saturday, Lauren and I will be getting out of Park Ridge for just a few moments as we trade our zip code for Skokie’s to serve as guest baristas at Will's Place in Skokie!

You know it takes a lot to get us to leave Park Ridge, but Will's Place is just such a place! If you have not yet visited Will's Place, I hope you will stop by and see what makes this organization so special. More than just a great place for coffee, breakfast, or lunch, Will's Place is creating meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities while building a stronger, more inclusive community.
We would love to see some familiar faces, so please consider stopping by, saying hello, and supporting this incredible mission. Every cup of coffee, sandwich, and pastry helps make a difference.

Come visit us, grab a bite to eat, and help support an organization that is changing lives one opportunity at a time.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

🐟 Volunteer Spotlight: FISH (Friends Indeed Serve & Help)

Sometimes the most powerful act of service is also the simplest one.

For more than 50 years, FISH has been quietly doing something remarkable in Maine Township — connecting neighbors who need a ride to a medical appointment with volunteers who are willing to give one. No complicated training. No long-term commitment required. Just you, your car, and a little of your time.

Since 1971, FISH volunteer drivers have helped thousands of residents access critical healthcare at no charge — and in doing so, they've provided something equally valuable: conversation, companionship, and the reassurance that someone in their community cares.

For many of our neighbors, a lack of transportation is the only thing standing between them and the medical care they need. FISH bridges that gap with compassion and consistency, one ride at a time.

This is one of the most straightforward ways to volunteer in our community — and one of the most meaningful. Whether you can help once a week or more, your time makes a real difference.

Reach out today and let FISH know you're ready to give back. Because sometimes helping a neighbor is as simple as giving them a ride. 💙

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce, community members, and the team at Zarminali Pediatrics to celebrate the opening of their newest location in the Village Green Shopping Center.

We are always excited when a business chooses to invest in Park Ridge, and it is especially meaningful when that investment supports the health and well-being of children and families in our community.

Zarminali has built its practice around a simple but powerful idea: making pediatric care more connected, accessible, and family-centered. By combining trusted pediatric care with specialty services, behavioral health support, urgent care access, and telehealth options, they are helping families navigate healthcare with greater ease and confidence.

Their commitment to creating welcoming, child-focused spaces and building lasting relationships with families is a wonderful addition to our community.

On behalf of the City of Park Ridge, congratulations to the entire Zarminali team on your new location. Thank you for choosing Park Ridge and for investing in the families who call our community home.

Please join me in welcoming Zarminali Pediatrics to Park Ridge!

What if the best way to raise grateful kids was to give them real opportunities to serve others?

Our Volunteer Fair introduced me to a lot of new incredible organizations — but Gratitude Generation was one I couldn't stop thinking about.

What began in 2017 as one mother's wish to help her daughter truly understand the gift of giving has grown into something extraordinary. G2 brings children, families, teens, and community volunteers together through hands-on service projects that address real needs — food insecurity, support for veterans, essentials for families in need, and so much more.

What I love most is that they don't just talk about gratitude. They put it into action. In doing so, they're helping raise the next generation of compassionate, community-minded leaders.

If you're looking for a meaningful way to get involved — or a way to show your kids or grandkids what it really means to give back — this is it. Often times, I hear from parents who are seeking community service / volunteer hours for their children, and now I have a great organization to recommend!

Days like today are a reminder of just how fortunate we are to call this community home.

Whether you're enjoying one of our outstanding parks, taking a walk or bike ride through town, meeting friends for coffee, dining at a local restaurant, or exploring Uptown, South Park, or North Park — there is no shortage of ways to soak it all in.

Don't forget to stop by the Park Ridge Farmers Market this morning, and make a return trip a bit later today to check out the first Park Ridge Market after Dark of the season. Keep your dollars local this weekend, and support our local businesses, and take advantage of everything happening throughout the weekend. From community events to our parks and gathering spaces, it's a perfect day to get outside and connect with your community. The national news may tell us what's wrong with the world. Time spent in our community reminds us what's right with it.

As for me — I plan to be out and about all day, visiting events, catching up on some outdoor work, and enjoying this incredible weather alongside many of you. I'll also be keeping one eye on Springfield as lawmakers work through their end-of-session negotiations. Hoping both the weather and the legislative process cooperate this weekend — though I'm considerably more confident about the forecast. 👀

Have a wonderful Saturday, Park Ridge. Get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and take full advantage of the reasons we ride out the winters here in Chicago!
