Busy few days for the FD! Saturday we started with a lift assist with the ambulance followed immediately by a call for a burn out of control. Saturday afternoon we assisted with a single vehicle rollover north of town. Sunday we had an afternoon vehicle fire. Monday, during the high winds, we had a grass/field fire. We were assisted on the grass fire by Humbolt, Marion, and Monroe Fire Departments. We were also assisted by local farmers with disks.

Interesting call on Thursday! We used our new SCBA packs that we trained on extensively during our Monday training.

Successful burns on Friday and Saturday! We had a great turn out from our members both days and had some local mutual aid departments’ help with a large burn Saturday. Thank you to Humboldt Fire & Ambulance, Monroe FD and Chancellor Community Fire Department for your help! Thanks to Wildland Coordinator Jakab for all the organization that goes into this process; it’s a thankless job that takes a lot of time. Thanks to Vanessa for bringing out the pizza for the crew yesterday!

Busy week for the Parker FD! We had a prescribed fire and SCBA training on Monday night, a field fire in 50+ mph winds Wednesday, and a gas leak at a corporate dairy yesterday. This evening we have a prescribed fire event planned at Wings of Valor. Tomorrow morning we have a prescribed fire planned just north of the S curve on Hwy 19 North of Parker. The fundraising mailers have been filling our mailbox! Thank you for your support!

Head on over and support our mutual aid buddies to the west this evening! They’ve got supper covered!

Be watching your mailboxes in the next few days if you live in, or own land in our fire response area. We send a letter to residents and landowners each year as our biggest fundraiser. This year we have identified tanker truck replacement as our fundraising priority. We spent Monday night stuffing envelopes as a crew. Thank you to the City of Parker office staff for printing and folding the 1000 letters.
We appreciate the support we have received in the past from those we serve and look forward to this year!

Thanks to Truck Foreman Harvey Hertel on designing and creating our new sign. This replaces the wooden sign that had some rot issues. We are going to repurpose the old sign. The Parker Volunteer Fire Department was originally incorporated as the Parker Relief Hose Company in 1891.

Training Officer Andy Wall led us in some walkthrough training on our new SCBA packs on Monday night following our business meeting. We went through the parts and functions of the new packs, bottle replacement, universal air connection location, mask fitting, PASS device and heads-up display, and bottle filling. Great turnout and a great training.

Saturday a group of our firefighters burned a tree pile for a local landowner. The extremely cold temperatures allowed the group to work on cold weather pump operations in a somewhat controlled environment. This type of knowledge is useful when we respond to emergencies during extreme cold weather. If the truck freezes up it makes it a LOT harder to put the fire out! Great work team!
P.S. the leafblower was used to stoke the fire in the low temp/low wind conditions.
