DCSD’s Snow Team is closely monitoring the forecasted, incoming winter storm. Updates regarding possible delays or closures will be available on the DCSD website, social media pages, and mobile app. Should no update be sent prior to 5:00 a.m., then school takes place on a normal schedule. If you are not comfortable with your children attending school, you may keep them home and it will be an excused absence - please be sure to notify your children’s school(s) if you choose to do so. Families who attend DCSD charter schools should check in with their school for any weather delays or closures.

The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Friday, March 15 due to weather conditions including heavy snow.

While the snowfall may taper off throughout the day today, the snow accumulations make it very unlikely that residential roads, parking lots, bus terminals, etc. will be cleared in time for school tomorrow.

As always, in the event of a closure, all DCSD buildings are closed.
- Preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school classes are cancelled
- BASE programs are closed
- Classes at the Bridge Program, D.C. Oakes, Eagle Academy, eDCSD and Plum Creek Academy are cancelled
- All activities, events, sports, and facility rentals are cancelled

If your child attends a DCSD charter school, we encourage you to check in with your school.

Our snow team is continuing to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website, social media, and our mobile app.

Stay warm and safe!

The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Thursday, March 14 due to forecasted weather conditions which include heavy snow.

We are making this decision early as a precaution so that we can provide our staff and families time to prepare. As this closure is being made based on weather forecasts – making the call early increases the chance that the snow could be less than projected. Should that be the case, we appreciate your understanding.

If snow totals truly reach forecasts of one to two FEET, it is unlikely that residential roads, parking lots, bus terminals, etc. would be cleared in time for Friday. We will continue to monitor the weather and forecasts and will update you should DCSD remain closed on Friday.

Dear DCSD Families and Staff,

The Douglas County School District will be CLOSED on Tuesday, January 16 due to inclement weather conditions including forecasted low temperatures during the first half of the day (with wind chills as low as 20 below zero at daybreak). There are a few reasons behind this decision:
- The deep freeze over the weekend has impacted our transportation fleet. We currently have two diesel pumps down and starting buses in the morning will be an issue.
- The windchill is expected to be well below zero tomorrow morning. In that environment, frostbite is a very real risk for any exposed skin, so we cannot have kids waiting at bus stops and walking to school, nor can we have staff outside manning car lines.
- We are proactively working to ensure our buildings will be warm and comfortable for our students and staff.

While a delayed start would help somewhat with the windchill (should be better at 9 or 10 am), it likely will not help our transportation challenges as the buses still have to be on the road as early as 7 am (and kids have to be at bus stops as early as 8 am).

It is expected to really warm up mid-day (to a balmy 30 degrees by afternoon), so we are allowing after school activities to go on as scheduled (unless you hear differently from the coach or activity sponsor). The Continental League Music Festival, scheduled for tomorrow, will carry on as planned.

During the school day, all DCSD buildings will be closed:
- Preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school classes are cancelled
- BASE programs are closed
- Classes at the Bridge Program, D.C. Oakes, Eagle Academy, eDCSD and Plum Creek Academy are cancelled
- Classes at the DCSD Legacy Campus are cancelled

Any after school facility rentals for tomorrow will continue as scheduled.

If your child attends a DCSD charter school, we encourage you to check in with your school about their status.

Our snow team is continuing to monitor the storm. We will provide any updates on our website, social media, and our mobile app.
