Beyond being a force in the music industry, Dolly Parton (and her Imagination Library) placed more than 300 million books in the hands of over 3 million children.

"“People often ask me, ‘What do you want to be remembered for?' So I want to be remembered for anything good that I’ve done. And I think that the Imagination Library is one of the best things I’ve ever done or will ever do or be involved in. I’m very proud that I can leave that, you know, that is part of my legacy, to be able to put books in the hands of children that can’t read—give them a love for learning and love for books...If they feel like somebody cares enough to put their little name on a book and send it to them, [it] makes them feel important even early on in their lives. And maybe that might be the one thing that might give them the confidence to do something else, not just learn to read, but to feel like somebody cared enough to pay special attention to them.”
- Dolly Parton, Parade Magazine, May 28 2024

We will remember you, Dolly, and always be grateful for your unwavering commitment to literacy.

The Parkesburg Free Library joins PAWS for People in celebrating the life of one of our longtime PAWS for Reading therapy companions, Moose the Golden Retriever.

Moose crossed the rainbow bridge recently at age 12½ following years of service as a favorite PAWS for Reading companion for our young readers here at the Parkesburg Free Library and other CCLS libraries.

Moose was one of the most patient and loving animals you'd ever hope to find, and his talent for making children feel safe and comfortable practicing their reading skills with him was unsurpassed.

We thank Moose's devoted family, Laura and her daughter Jane, for generously sharing both the beloved Moose and their time with us. Our hearts are with you during this extraordinarily difficult time. ❤️🌈🐾
