Dear citizens of Parkston, this is Chief Ryan Antaya with the Parkston Police Department. I started in mid January this year and have been addressing somethings that need attention. This weekend was extremely nice and I had a few calls on golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles and mopeds. I wanted to do some checking on a few things before I told people what they can and can not do. Here is a list of laws and ordinances EVERYONE NEEDS to follow when it comes to golf carts, ATV’s, motorcycles and mopeds.
Everyone that drives a golf cart, ATV, motorcycle or moped in city limits MUST have a valid Driver’s License. If they don’t have one then they can not be driving. Also a Learners Permit is NOT a Valid Driver License. No child with a Learners Permit or no Driver License can be driving a golf cart, ATV, motorcycle or moped in city limits, unless a licensed adult is riding with them. If anyone is caught driving with out a valid Driver License they will be stopped and they will have to wait there until someone with a valid Driver License comes and get it.
If any questions please call at 605-928-7301.
*A few other things to let people know. ALL golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles and mopeds must be insured when traveling on public roads in city limits.
*ATVs and motorcycles must have a vailed license plate. Golf carts do not need to have a license plate but they do need to have a city permit which needs to be renewed every year and must have a slow moving vehicle emblem. Mopeds do not need to have a license plate.
Thank you for understanding this and your future cooperation.
