Maryland Vital Records at Reclaim the Records
Bob Greiner
MAY 24, SUNDAY 3 pm

General Meeting: In Person
Presentation: In Person

In 2023 Reclaim the Records (RTR), a private organization founded in 2015, obtained and published online all Maryland available vital records from the Maryland State Archives.

This includes both indexes and digital images of birth, marriage, and death certificates from 1875 through 2014, although some of those are restricted.

Due to the volume and variety of records, and multiple indexing methods, the search for an individual record is not simple.

Bob Greiner will describe the available records and demonstrate how to use the RTR website to search for a vital record and retrieve the image.

Meet the Feeley Family
Cecilia Wright
MARCH 22, SUNDAY 3 pm

General Meeting: In Person
Presentation: In Person

Cecilia Wright is from the Irish American Museum, Baltimore, formerly known as the Irish Railroad Workers Museum.

James and Sarah Feeley lived in 918 Lemmon Street from the 1860’s into the 1880’s.

Over 20 years ago, the founders of the Irish American Museum were delighted to begin learning about the family that lived in the house that they saved from demolition, and planned to turn into a museum. Ever since then, they have been working to discover the family’s story.

This presentation follows that journey from early finds, to humorous surprises and recent discoveries through many types of historic documents.

Maybe you can find some hints to help in your own research through what we have learned about this typical Irish working-class family.

The museum is located one short block directly north of Baltimore’s B&O Railroad Museum.

Many of the Irish and other immigrant families that lived in that neighborhood were the laborers that built the early railroads.

The Irish American Museum centers on the connections between those laborers and the railroad.

Breaking Genealogy Brick Walls with AI
Pamela R Ellis
FEBRUARY 22, SUNDAY 3 pm

Genealogical “brick walls” challenge researchers at every level, from beginners just starting their family history journey, to seasoned genealogists with decades of experience. The Brick Wall: Breaking Genealogy Barriers with AI, introduces a practical, workbook-style approach that helps researchers think like an archivist, ask better questions, and uncover records they may never have realized existed.

This book — and the accompanying talk — focuses on moving beyond simple name searches and learning how to search smarter. In this presentation, the author demonstrates how modern AI tools can be used as powerful research assistants — not as shortcuts, but as analytical partners. You will see how AI can help suggest overlooked record types, compare conflicting evidence, and tackle more complex genealogical problems.

The talk emphasizes simplicity and clarity: how to search differently, how to understand results more effectively, and how to put AI to work on difficult tasks such as comparing records, analyzing timelines, and exploring alternate research paths. Real-world examples show how AI can support sound genealogical methodology while keeping the researcher firmly in control.

Whether you are new to genealogy or an experienced researcher facing long-standing brick walls, this presentation offers practical strategies, fresh perspectives, and new tools to help move your research forward with confidence.
