Platte County Sheriff Erik Holland Endorses Jason Maki for Platte County Presiding Commissioner
Sheriff cites Maki’s pragmatic approach to governing and shared commitment to public safety and the county’s core missions
PARKVILLE, Mo. — Platte County Sheriff Erik Holland has endorsed Jason Maki, the Republican nominee for Platte County Presiding Commissioner, in the November 3, 2026 general election.
“I believe Jason Maki is the best choice for Platte County Presiding Commissioner,” Holland said. “His pragmatic approach to governing, and his commitment to keeping the county focused on its core missions, are things I appreciate. I support him in his campaign, and I look forward to working with him in partnership to help protect the citizens of Platte County as it grows.”
Holland has served in the Platte County Sheriff’s Office since 1999, rising through the ranks as a sergeant, captain, and major and serving as the agency’s general counsel before being elected sheriff in 2024. His endorsement follows the July endorsement of Maki by IAFF Local 42, which represents more than 1,800 firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics across Greater Kansas City.
“Sheriff Holland and his deputies are the front line of public safety in Platte County, and I am honored to have his support,” Maki said. “We see the same thing when we look at this county: a community growing fast, and a county government that has to stay disciplined about its core job. Public safety is the first line of that job. It has to be funded first, staffed fully, and supported without hesitation.”
Maki has built his campaign on the premise that Platte County government has two core missions — public safety and public infrastructure — and that its responsibility is to fund those missions fully and execute them well before spending on anything else. His public safety agenda centers on five commitments to the people who do the work: attract, retain, equip, train, and support. That means competitive compensation to keep experienced deputies and detention officers from leaving for neighboring jurisdictions, the equipment and training to do the job safely, and a fully staffed Prosecuting Attorney’s Office so that an arrest leads to accountability rather than a revolving door.
In August, Maki visited the Platte County jail to meet with detention officers and hear directly about the conditions they work in, including aging facility infrastructure that affects both the jail and the county’s 911 dispatch team. He has said the public safety facility recommendations produced by a bipartisan citizen commission several years ago deserve a fresh, public re-examination.
“The sheriff and I both want the same outcome: a Platte County that is safe to raise a family in, with a county government that treats the people protecting it as the priority they are,” Maki said. “This endorsement is a partnership, and I intend to honor it by showing up, listening, and delivering.”
