Know Your Roads – Parkville Edition 🚧
Did you know that not every road within Parkville is maintained by the City of Parkville?
Depending on the roadway, maintenance may be the responsibility of the City, Platte County or the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Knowing who maintains the road helps get concerns to the right team AND gets them addressed more efficiently.
A timely example: MO Route 45
MO Route 45 is a state highway maintained by MoDOT, not the City of Parkville. That means concerns about pavement conditions, sidewalks, debris or other maintenance along MO-45 need to be addressed by MoDOT.
Residents can report a concern directly to MoDOT here:

When residents contact the City about issues along MO-45, we’re also happy to help direct those concerns to the appropriate agency and, when appropriate, submit a request to MoDOT as well.
What about Bell Road?
Bell Road is a different situation – it is maintained by the City of Parkville. The City is currently in the early stages of a major improvement project along Bell Rd. that includes new sidewalks, underground infrastructure improvements, and water-main work in partnership with Missouri American Water. Sometimes when a utility company is aware of work being done in the area, they will also do their upcoming work so that permanent finishing work is completed only once.
Because that construction requires significant work within and underneath the roadway, final paving will happen after the other improvements are complete. This prevents us from paving the road now only to tear portions of it back up during construction.
When the project is finished, the entire road surface will be repaved and returned to new condition. Construction will commence in Spring 2027 and continue through the fall / winter).
