This week, Parlier Unified School District held a Public Hearing regarding the proposed renaming of Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School. We are grateful to the community members, staff, parents, and local leaders who took the time to participate and share their perspectives.

Throughout the community engagement process, one name consistently emerged as the preferred choice: Tuolumne Elementary School. During the Public Hearing, many speakers expressed support for restoring the school's original name, citing its historical significance to generations of Parlier families and its connection to California's rich cultural heritage.

The hearing provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and community input, reinforcing the importance of engaging stakeholders in decisions that impact our schools and students.

We thank everyone who participated in this important conversation and helped shape the future of our school community.

🌟 Superintendent Superstar Award Recognition 🌟

Congratulations to Abreena Reyes, a remarkable 6th-grade student from Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School, who has been nominated by the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) and recognized as a Superintendent Superstar Award recipient at this week's Board Meeting! 🎉

Abreena is a student who brings positivity, leadership, and kindness to our school community each and every day. From the moment she walks into the classroom, she shines as a bright light, uplifting those around her with her positive attitude and caring spirit.

As ASB President, Abreena has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a genuine commitment to serving others. Whether helping with classroom tasks, distributing materials, or supporting her classmates, she is often the first to volunteer and lend a helping hand.

One of Abreena’s greatest strengths is her compassion. She values friendship, inclusion, and ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and supported. Throughout the school year, she has shown incredible resilience, perseverance, and personal growth, overcoming challenges with determination and grace.

☀️ Great News for Families: SUN Bucks is Here!

🍉 What is SUN Bucks?
SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) is a grocery benefit program that provides families with funds to buy food during the summer months when school meals are not available. Eligible students will receive a one-time benefit loaded onto a card to use at most grocery stores and farmers' markets!

👥 Who automatically qualifies?
If your household already receives benefits like CalFresh, CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal, your child will be enrolled automatically. No application is needed!

📝 Receiving an application this week? Applications are being sent to families who do not currently receive state benefits but may still qualify.

Please complete one form per household.

Where to return it: Turn it in to your student's school site during June, or to the district office before August 31st to ensure your child receives their benefits!
