Beat the Heat☀️

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty.

Find Air Conditioning: If your home is too hot, visit public spaces like the library, mall, or a cooling center.

Never Leave Dependents in Cars: Cars heat up quickly. A vehicle's interior can get ~ 20 degrees hotter in just 10 minutes.

Know the Signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke:

If you are dealing with heat exhaustion, you will typically exhibit signs of severe dehydration and overheating, but your mental state generally remains clear.
👉Skin: Pale, cold, and clammy with heavy sweating.
👉Vital Signs: Weak, rapid pulse and a body temperature around 100°F to 104°F (38°C to 40°C).
👉Physical Discomfort: Dizziness, headache, nausea, or vomiting.
👉Other Signs: Muscle cramps, extreme thirst, and intense fatigue.

Heat Stroke Symptoms (Immediate Medical Emergency ~ Call 911)
Heat stroke is the late stage of heat illness and is distinguished primarily by confusion and dangerous changes in the nervous system.
👉Mental Changes: Confusion, slurred speech, delirium, or loss of consciousness.
👉Physical Distress: Seizures and rapid, shallow breathing.
👉Skin: May be hot, red, and completely dry (sweating stops), though sometimes it may remain moist.
👉Vital Signs: Body temperature 104°F (40°C) or higher and a rapid, strong pulse.

SUMMER SAFETY TIPS - Outdoor Grills 🔥

👉Grill outdoors only.
👉Keep the grill at least 3 to 10 feet away from your home, deck railings, and trees.
👉 Create a 3-foot "safe zone" to keep children and pets away from the flames.
👉Never leave a lit grill unattended, and always keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

Review these simple steps:

PROPANE GRILLS:
⭐️Open the lid before lighting: Trapped gas can cause an explosion.
⭐️Check for leaks: Apply soapy water to hoses. Bubbles mean there is a leak.
⭐️If you smell gas, turn off the tank and grill immediately. If the smell stays, call the fire department.

CHARCOAL GRILLS:
⭐️Use proper starter fluid. NEVER use gasoline or kerosene.
⭐️Never add more fluid once your fire has started. Sq**rt the appropriate starter fluid on cold coals only. Adding it to a hot fire causes dangerous flare-ups.
⭐️Disposing of hot coals: Place used coals in a covered, metal can and let them cool completely.
⭐️Never put hot ash directly into a plastic trash can.

GENERAL COOKOUT RULES:

☑️Dress safely: Wear fitted clothes and keep apron strings tucked away.
☑️Keep it clean: Grease and fat build-ups fuel major fires. Clean your grill's grates and grease trays after each use.
☑️Never move a burning grill: Wait for it to cool down completely before transporting it.

🔥🔥🔥 Stay safe and enjoy a safe grilling season! 🔥🔥🔥

This Memorial Day, we were honored to take part in our community parade and create lasting memories with the families who came out to celebrate.🚒🇺🇸

A special thank you goes to Outspoken E-Bikes for generously providing us with an e-bike for the event. The bike became a crowd favorite as our firefighters used it to travel along the parade route, handing out candy to children and families. With its convenient rear basket packed full of treats, it helped us connect with our community in a fun and memorable way.

Partnerships like these make a difference, and we're grateful for the support of local businesses that help us engage with the residents we proudly serve. Thank you, Outspoken E-Bikes, for helping us spread smiles and make this Memorial Day Parade even more special.

Did you know routine hydrant flushing helps keep our water system clean and safe? While it’s a good thing, it can temporarily affect your water at home. Here are a few quick tips to keep things running smoothly:

💧 Check your water before use – If it looks cloudy or discolored, let it run from a cold tap for a few minutes until it clears.

👕 Hold off on laundry – Avoid washing clothes during flushing times to prevent staining.

🚿 Limit water use if possible – This helps avoid pulling sediment into your home’s plumbing.

🧊 Flush your lines – After flushing is complete, run cold water from the lowest faucet in your home for a few minutes.

🚰 Clean faucet screens – If pressure seems low, sediment may have collected—just rinse out the aerator.

These temporary changes are normal and should resolve quickly. Thanks for helping keep our water system in top shape! 💙

FIREFIGHTER FEATURE: MEET JOSHUA NEBOZUK 🔥🚒🔥

Meet Firefighter Josh “Nebo” Nebozuk, proudly serving since 2021!
For Nebo, firefighting is more than a career — it’s a family tradition. Inspired by his father, a retired Captain from Lakewood Fire, and his grandfather, a retired Cleveland firefighter, he continues a legacy of service spanning generations. ❤️🚒
“One of the most satisfying parts of the job is problem-solving. People call us for all kinds of problems, and we’re always willing to help find a solution.”
When he’s not responding to calls, you’ll find Nebo training with his crew, working out, cooking dinner together at the station, and making sure everyone watches 🎥 The Big Lebowski for the 100th time.
Beyond the firehouse, Nebo is deeply committed to the community:
✅ Teaching CPR to local businesses and residents
✅ Installing car seats as a certified CPST
✅ Helping families stay safe every day
He believes teamwork is the backbone of the fire service:
💪 “We all have different strengths, and when we combine them, we can do great things.”
At home, Nebo enjoys life on his homestead with his wife and kids, producing eggs, maple syrup, honey, fruits, and vegetables 🍯🥚🍁. He also enjoys hunting, spending time outdoors, and riding his motorcycle whenever he gets the chance 🏍️
And for those wondering:
☕ Coffee all day
⚡ Energy drink before a workout
Nebo also reminds everyone of one simple way to help firefighters in an emergency:
🏠 Make sure your address numbers are clearly visible and unobstructed.
Thank you, Firefighter Nebozuk, for your dedication, service, and commitment to the community! 👏🚒🇺🇸

FIREFIGHTER FEATURE: MEET NICK SALMAN 🔥🚒🚑🔥

Since joining the fire service in 2020, Nick has dedicated his life to something bigger than himself — serving others and protecting the community. 🚒❤️

For Nick, the most rewarding part of the job is the brotherhood inside the firehouse and the opportunity to help people during some of the toughest moments of their lives. From training and workouts 💪 to cooking meals together 🍳 and responding when duty calls, every day is built on teamwork, trust, and commitment.

When asked how he handles the stress of the job, Nick shared that keeping his faith in Christ guides him through every challenge 🙏✝️

Outside of emergency calls, Nick and his department continue making a lasting impact through community events, public outreach, and everyday interactions that truly matter 🤝

His message to the public:
“Trust in our ability to help you in your worst situation.”

And during those long shifts? Forget the energy drinks — Green Tea keeps him going 🍵😄

Thank you, Nick, for your dedication, strength, and service to our community. Your passion inspires us all. 🚒🔥👏

If you see Nick out and about, be sure to thank him for his service!
