This new report showing how the cost of housing is increasingly out of reach for Ohioans, including in the Cleveland metropolitan area, highlights the need for change.

One shocking statistic: “In Ohio, 67% of occupations could purchase a home with 10% down in 2020, but that dropped down to 26% in 2025, according to the report.”

One of the voters I met recently is around 30 years old with a good-paying job but was moving back home with her parents because she just can’t save enough to afford a house after rent was eating up so much of her income. She desperately needs a state government that will find ways to remove barriers to building new housing supply and making the dream of home ownership attainable again. She’s not alone.

Help me get to the Statehouse so we can do our part to fix this problem.

Ohio had the steepest decline in homeownership affordability between 2020 to 2025, according to new reporting from the National Housing Conference.

Just wrapped up an action-packed weekend! After stopping by a busy yard sign drive-through in Fairview Park organized by our local Democratic clubs, I attended a high-energy labor rally for Amy Acton at John Marshall High School in Cleveland and lively “No Kings” demonstrations in Rocky River and Bay Village. In between those events, I knocked on about 100 doors in Bay Village and Westlake over the past two days and spent this evening cheering on the Guardians with my brother, Steve. (We’ll get ‘em tomorrow in Tampa Bay!)

With only 16 days until Election Day, it’s clear that momentum is building. People want change, and they’re turning out in big numbers to get it. We still have a lot of work to do between now and November 3rd, but I like the direction we’re heading!

After watching the Guardians win, had a great evening meeting voters in Bay Village with my friend Fallon Radigan, who will be an excellent Common Pleas Court Judge in Cuyahoga County.

It’s been an eventful week. Yesterday, I joined brothers and sisters from organized labor and current and future members of the Ohio House at a rally in support of Sherrod Brown. We need him back in the US Senate!

I also attended a summit sponsored by the Labor Committee of the Cleveland NAACP Chapter on collective bargaining, civil rights, and the the faith community and our common purpose to advance opportunities for all working people in our nation. Later that day, I went to Elyria to meet with OEA members at a gathering with pro-public education candidates. Great seeing Mike Baker, Matt Lundy, and Joe Miller there!

That all followed my visit earlier this week to the Fairview Park City Council meeting. I have learned a lot about how the state needs to be a reliable partner with our local communities as I have attended council meetings in cities across the district.

ENDORSEMENT ALERT! Thank you to the Plain Dealer/cleveland.com for endorsing my candidacy for state representative.

“DiMauro, a retired high school social studies teacher who spent much of his career as a union activist, is a highly partisan person -- noting right off that he supported Democrat Amy Acton for governor and not Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. He argued Ohio had to be fixed from the top down.

“But he also contends that, like Sweeney, he could be a pragmatic operator, something honed during his labor leadership, to build bridges across the aisle to get things done in the GOP-dominated Statehouse.”

The editorial board of The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com endorses Scott DiMauro in the 16th Ohio House District.

Here is a significant point of disagreement between me and my opponent as highlighted in the summary of the discussion:

“DiMauro argued that expanded vouchers subsidize families already using private schools while public schools struggle for adequate state support. He would restore income caps and require voucher recipients’ schools to administer the same tests as public schools.

“Tjotjos defended vouchers as parental choice, while supporting financial accountability and monitoring of costs. She opposed imposing public school testing requirements on private schools, saying differences in curriculum and teaching methods are often why families choose them.”

Two candidates vying for an Ohio House seat clash over school vouchers, property tax relief, and data center regulations while agreeing on completing the Fair School Funding Plan.

OEA members showed up strong today to support pro-public education candidates in HD 16 and CD 7! Many thanks to the Bay Teachers’ Association and Fairview Park Education Association for organizing today’s meet-and-greet event with me and Brian Poindexter, followed by canvassing in Westlake and hundreds of postcards written to voters. Feeling a lot of support for change in Columbus and DC with just 24 days to go until Election Day.

Lauren and I voted today! There was a huge crowd of people at the Cuyahoga County Early Vote Center doing their civic duty today, as there has been all week.

Have you voted yet? Please vote early if you can, and if you live in HD 16, I would be honored to have your vote!

Please make your plan to vote today. You have three options:

- Vote by mail. It’s not too late to request an absentee ballot, but do it soon! (Deadline is 10/27, but don’t wait until then.)

- Vote early in person like we did. (Dates and times listed below.)

- Vote on November 3 at your local polling location between 6:30am and 7:30pm.

Early In-Person Voting Hours at the Board of Elections (1803 Superior Ave., Cleveland):
- Now through October 23: weekdays, 8am-5pm
