**Structure Fire**

On Wednesday, May 20th at approximately 8:10 PM, the Parsippany Police Department’s Communications Center was contacted by the Montville Police Department’s Communication Center regarding a 911 phone call they received for a structure fire at Building 46 in the Knoll Gardens Apartment Complex located in the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany.

Officers responded to the scene where they were advised that there was an active fire in the crawl space of the building. Maintenance personnel and officers safely evacuated the area.

The fire was extinguished by responding firefighters. As a result of the fire, and subsequent disconnection of the utilities, the building was deemed uninhabitable. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents as needed.

All six Parsippany Fire Districts along with Parsippany Rescue and Recovery, Par-Troy EMS and both Parsippany Volunteer EMS squads responded to the scene. Mutual aid was provided by Boonton Fire Department, Whippany Fire Department, Denville Fire Department, Montville Fire Department and Morris Plains Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Parsippany Police Department at 973-263-4300.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department remains committed to building a safer, more supportive, and more inclusive community.

We are proud to partner with the Mental Health Association through the ARRIVE Together Program. ARRIVE stands for Alternative Responses to Reduce Instances of Violence and Escalation which is an initiative established by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General. ARRIVE Together pairs law enforcement officers with mental health professionals to respond to behavioral health crises with compassion, care, knowledge, and access to valuable resources.

In an effort to provide further assistance to the public, our officers will be carrying the attached resource card to provide individuals with easy access to social services, support programs, and information on the various resources available to those who may need them.
